Newbie Questions! Please help

I just bought a 95 Grand Cherokee Limited with 165k miles for $2800. Most everything else is in pretty good shape. So my questions, the temperature monitor by the direction monitor reads OC? What does this mean? Also, the left blinker blinks faster then the right, quite a bit faster. Is this a short, or bad fuse or what? The cig. lighter doesn't work but I am pretty sure thats just a bad fuse. The main screen reads Washer Senser bad, so I guess obviously its the windshield washer fluid senser, but where in the heck do I get one of these and how hard is installation? Last question, its a full-time 4x4, and so, when I turn sharply, well you know how 4x4 vehicles turn, but it seems worse then most, so hopefully something isn't wrong there, but i wouldn't be suprised. Any suggestions on some of these problems? Thanks

usually, when you have a fast blinker, there is a bulb burned out some where, not sure for your year, but normaly the same flasher is used for both left and right, then another flasher for the hazards so i don't think its the flasher.

So just check out the bulbs in the headlights? I was planning on putting in new headlights, so why not go as far as replacing the bulbs. Thanks.

Re: Newbie Questions! Please help

when you say full-time you mean that the only opyions are four high and four low correct if so then try this....after your jeep has set over night or at least a couple hours to make sure everything is cold (tcase in particular), start your jeep, put in drive and turn your wheel as sharp as you can...if you get like a jerking or launching feeling from the front end, then the VC in the Tcase might be shot...if so hope you got money or feel comfortable with working on a tcase because your options are replace or convert

Re: Newbie Questions! Please help

before attempting to replace the Viscous Coupling, check the fluid in the Transfer Case,

On flat level ground, take the filler bolt off the TC (big bolts 1-1/8", in the middle of the transfer case, there are 2 bolts this size ontoward the bottom and one in the middle - you want to take the middle bolt off) then with a plunger/squirt type oil can fill the Transfer Case w/ Dexron II/Mercon automatic tranny fluid until the fluid starts spilling out of the filler hole. then put the filler plug/bolt back on and check to c if that helped the hopping binding when steering. Another guy had this problem and found his was low on fluid, so he refilled and it cured his problem. You may want to change the fluid all together, I recommend using Synthetic fluid (Royal Purple) it helps from premature failure of the VC.

OC= open circuit. The temp sensor is behind the grille.See if it is unplugged or if its even still there.Otherwise you need to start tracing the wiring.

What you are referring to by "Full-Time" I'm assuming is the NP249 TC, or Quadra-Drive. For numerous reasons, the vicious coupling units in these cases take a crap early. To tell you the truth, congratulations as I have never seen a VC last quite as long as that!

Your blinker needs a new relay, and one of the bulbs may be about to blow. Also, the cigarrette lighter is indeed on a fuse and if I were you I would get a continuity tester from Radio Shack, and check all the fuses just to be safe.

HTH!
Matt

Re: Newbie Questions! Please help

well My VC lasted 180,000 miles actually about 181,000.
like I mentioned above before assuming the VC is gone, check the fluid level and maybe replace with Synthetic.
