97 transmission problems
SHORT VERSION (LONG VERSION BELOW):
1997 Suburban 2 WD 104k problem: press the gas to go, i get high revs and the truck creeps... LONG VERSION the other day i noticed a weird lugging feeling in traffic after about 20 minutes in stop and go traffic. the truck was kinda jerky from a complete or slow role. i pulled back in to my office building and came back to the truck about 6 hours later. drove the truck home and no problems.. (35 miles) went for a drive today... cold morning no problems for atleast 40 or so miles... all at mainly highway speeds. hit a traffic light. pressed the gas on green. high RPM's and the trucked just creeped. made it to a parking lot. when shifting to drive or reverse i dont feel any "load" on the transmission. just high RPM's and slow go. came back to the truck about 4 hours later. pulled of fine, did the rev thing again. this time i noticed a slight kind of grindy noise. i parked the truck and came home. think it could be a torque convertor or maybe the computers trying to compensate for something else? thanks in advance for the help Hall |

Really sounds like a converter problem,,,when you lose ALL movement,,,,
If you pull the trans pan,,and find nothing,,,,It's usually the converter/// OR you find really fine silver powder mixed with the oil,,,,it's the converter.... Could be the filter if it hasn't been serviced in a million years,,but if the oil is metallic ,,,rip er out!!!! |

thanks for the response. i got it fixed. it was the pressure regulator valve for the tranny... the fluid looked good and no metal in the pan.
soooo much better than a new tranny!!
