3rd gen suspension?

Do 82 firebirds come with both struts and shocks or one or the other?

Struts in the front, and shocks in the back. As far as which brand (i'm assuming this is what you mean) is better it would depend on what your looking for. Do you want to improve the ride quality, or are you looking for somthing more performance oriented?

Edelbrock makes a good set that are adjustable to suit your application.

Do struts make a distinctive noise when they go bad besides being really bouncy?

Re: 3rd gen suspension?

as far as i knew mine has a strut in the back and front.Doesnt strut mean the shock has a vertical bolt on top,as oppose to a horizontal bolt like a shock>?

Re: 3rd gen suspension?

sky jacker air in back, and heavy duty hydraulic monroes, and spring spacers in front give it an agressive stance, and good for launchin, while giving a corvette feel to the ride(stiff ride)

I thought that a strut is basically the spring and shock assembly combined as opposed to the shock being a separate entity from the spring. The idea being to save space.

Re: 3rd gen suspension?

Mcpherson is who originally designed the front strut system on the 82's.Im running monroes, and they dont do too bad,but they are starting to ride like used struts already, and they was put on like 3 thousand miles ago...im rude to them tho,i test the durablilty of any part that i buy,or install
