97 jimmy hard to start cold

the problem is when the truck sits for about 8hrs and the temp outside is near o celcius , the truck is a real pain to start. It'll start by giving it small cranks of the starter (after letting the feul pump finnish it's pumping each time before cranking). got fed up and after checking what I could ( plug conditions, rotor, cap, yes the feul pump is heard) I brought it to the garage - they say feul pressure is good but suspects some sort of injector thing problem. I'm familiar with older cars, good days of carbs, chokes, vacuums, and distributers, but this electronic stuff is out of my league. I 'll let anyone who cares to read know what they find. meantime I'm reading all your problems. yah it's going to cost me but I plan on getting rid of it soon. check engine light was also on for the last couple of years on and off, dealer never found the problem with that either.

ok got the truck back and it has fired up for the last 2 days with no problemos. first day -17 celcius and today don't know how cold it was.(but the frggn thing started). turns out it was the feul pump not giving enough initial pressure, and after running awhile I guess it was alright, because sitting out in the cold for just hour or 2 it did fire up. Now it's all peaches and cream again. looks like I won't be holding that B.B.Q. in my drive way.

Re: 97 jimmy hard to start cold

My '97 Jimmy also cold starts "hard"...the cure for me has been to turn the ignition on only one click so I hear the fuel pump spin up, takes about five seconds to get up to full line pressure, and you can hear the pump noise decrease, then I flip the the ignition over full and it turns over in only 2 or 3 cranks. If I don't do this, it just cranks and cranks like it won't start.

your right spectrese and that's what I use to do untill finally it just was a real pain in the -ss to start. that was about a year ago, it slowly got worse. now in the deep freeze -28 celcius, it hardly needs to crank and it fires up like pronto.

Re: 97 jimmy hard to start cold

I would check your battery.

When it gets cold, the voltage will drop.

If the battery is poor, the voltage will not high enough to supply enough juice to the pump for it to supply the needed fuel pressure on startup.
