The element of surprise

Cliff notes at the botom

My mom let me drive her car to go get some food real quick. So I jumped in the dirty and filled with junk Chrysler Cirrus LXi, and decided to pick my friend up to storm Taco Bell. Got 10 tacos for only $8 (great deal) and while on our way home to eat these cheap and delicious tacos we caught a red light.

It was a three lane street that merged into two just after the light. I was watching cars go the other way and noticed an MkII Supra pull up next to me on the left. It was a younger kid, about 18 or so and he was talking on a cell phone. We made eye contact and I knew he would race if I provoked him to. So I started to laugh, knowing the car I was driving was slow as shit, and revved it. He looked at me laughing and probably thought I was laughing at him, and gave a slight smile. I shifted my attention to the light and waited, not knowing that this would be one race I would never forget.

After waiting what seemed forever for the light to change, it turned green and the race was on. I planted my right foot on the gas and waited for the wheel spin to stop. By the time I had finished leaving my own personal signature on the asphalt he was a good car length ahead and pulling strong. The slow automatic transmission shifted into second, and he his lead was starting to become embarrassing. Half way through second we where about to pass the end of the right lane and just as I thought this race couldn’t get any worse, my friend points something out to me.

The car on our right was pulling on me! My jaw just dropped as this FORD TAURUS was pulling on me, I couldn’t believe it. As his lane merged into mine, I found myself not only falling behind the Supra, but also this rouge Taurus. For a brief moment all that was to be heard was our V6 approaching 5k RPMs, and then the sound was drowned out by our hysteric laughter. Who would have thought…destroyed by a Taurus.

Never underestimate the Taurus! Im assuming it was a newer one (since you didnt mention anything about a SHO) so it was probably just a newer base model. It probably had the 3.0L duratec motor which is a pretty good motor. 200 hp/200tq...but its just a shame they have to back it up with a slushbox automatic. Many contour/cougar owners actually swap the 3.0L duratec motor from a taurus into our cars.

Re: The element of surprise

you serious about those Taurus SHO's being fast? or the Contour SVT? dude, not to be mean but to me they seem pretty slow. My cuzins Talon beat one (Contour SVT) on the highway with ease with his Tsi AWD. and the Taurus SHO, arent they 4 door? my uncle and i, in his Teg GS, killed one on the highway. I think its just the driver tho.
-Back to the original story, thats a funny as hell race...hhahahha..lmao

Both the contour and Taurus are 4 doors. It could go either way. Its all drivers race. Honestly, most people that I know that drive SVT contours cant launch worth crap. They are generally pretty good on top end though (top speed 143). Third gear is when they start to walk away. Now the newer last gen SHO, i could see being beat, but the older sho's are pretty quick. Ive seen those things put down 220 whp all motor.

My X gf has a Tourus i think its a 95, its a V6, i drove it one time, i didnt even floor it and it knocked me back in the seat. When i drive my 4cyl accord i dont even feel like im going fast and i can keep up with this asshole in my class that thinks he has a super civic.

So what im trying to say is the Taurus isnt as slow as everyone might think.

Re: The element of surprise

I know a dude with one of the very first 3.0 swaps into a SVT Contour and it could whip some ppl's asses and SHO's are fast. I'v raced a couple V8 and V6's one with a couple mods and they kept up pretty well! Never raced an SVT yet! I wanna race the pearl white 3.0 SVT not to far from home i think i could rape it!

yes im serious about the taurus sho's being fast. 220 hp 215 tq, mid to low 15 second car stock. if it was the later model after 95 i could see you maybe beating one as well in the integra, but not the 93-95 models. that is of course supposing your uncle has no serious mods. as for the svt they are fast, but i dont really know anything about them, however sk8ter_in_ny used to own one, so ask him about how quick they are

SVT Contour are quick, but not as quick as a SHO. I've ran a SHO when I had it and he got me by 2 car lenths till 85 when I started creeping up on him and passed him at 105. The SHO's will put down a 15.0,15.2 1/4 mile (so can a SVT contour if the driver can REALLY drive) I got a 15.4 in mine stock, and 15.2 with an intake. oh and the fastest SHO was the 89 model.

Be careful of your words, 3.0 hybrid contour's have been known to put down mid-low 14's and if they're tuned N/A the best time for them is 13.2 (or 13.4? BeyondloadedSE knows).

best n/a 3.0L svt time is a 13.4 @ 102. My buddy that lives right down the street from me runs a 14.4 with his 3.0L svt.

The V8 SHO's have amazing top end. Too bad they have that "small" cam problem.

Re: The element of surprise

i've got a 89 ford taurus out in front of my house... and...well....i thought about swapping in a 3.0 220hp rated SHO motor into it w/ a 5 speed...then i realized it would have more horsepower than my car and decided not to embarrass myself.... but still a worthy sleeper if you've seen the fox body sho's

Re: The element of surprise

The problem with Taurus is that it's a boat. It weighs like 3500 pounds, and since it produces only 200 hp, it's not that fast.
