new fiero! help please

Hey y'all, i just recently came upon a 1986 fiero GT, white, automatic, for $1500. runs great, 146k miles. anyway, the only real problem is that the gauges dont really work, the speedometer doesnt read until around 40 or 50. and the oil pressure guage reads it really low, to the point that the light comes on at idle. so what's the diagnosis fellas?

I'm assuming you have a V6, but even with a 4 cyl my advice would be the same. I'd get some working guages of some kind to at least get some kind of accurate reading of what you have, including the oil pressure. If the pressure starts out low, it probably won't get any better as it warms up. At that point, I'd do a compression check to see how balanced your cylinders are and help determine if you have a top or bottom end problem or both- with that mileage, could be either. Check it out and see where you're at. Good luck!

Re: new fiero! help please

It would be easier to drop the engine and and transmission on the cradle to swap out the transmission. A swap of that nature should be done by an experienced mechanic because lots of stuff needs to be replaced including the ECM. Since it is a high milage car swap out the engine at the same time. www.twinlakesfiero.com www.v8archie.com depending on what engine you want and how much $ you want to spend. You should be able to get the car in like new condition for under $10K
