C.C.Lee models?

Hey,

I was looking on ebay and came accross this. 1/24 MERCEDES-BENZ 600 SEL http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...941863782&rd=1 At 1st glance I thought it was a Tamiya kit. But it says made by C. C. Lee models. Does anyone have any info on this company? Is it a reboxed tamiya kti or what?

Thanks,
Frank X.

The ones that I have seen are re-done Tamiya kits. I think they make a mold of from a Tamiya and then make their own copies. The detail is usually very soft and the plastic is not the best quality.

I agree; they're bad quality but you can work with it as long as you have low expectations.

Hey,

Thanks for the replies so far. So, I would be looking at fujimi or lower quality?

Thanks,
Frank X.

Re: C.C.Lee models?

I think you may want to be thinking in the realm of a very bad AMT kit in this case....

This subject was done a few weeks ago, Tikiman started it. I personally dont think that kit is anything to buy, its just a Tamiya rip off with loads of sanding & fixing to do.
vwman
though has other views regarding this kit...................check it out here........

C.C.Lee is from China, not re-do but repackage. Inside is the same as Tamiya BUT the material is like 'Bande' not Bandai. Very crisp on material and will break easily, instruction sheet like your toliet paper and no water slide decal rather than a sticker will be included. If you still want to get it, you might need 2 times the effort and time to finish it like the Tamiya kit.

I just recently looked inside the box of one of these kits. A friend bought some in China and thinks he's going to sell them here for $20 apiece. I was somewhat horrified when I looked at the contents. It's a very bad copy of a Tamiya kit, very simplified, very rough castings by comparison. What would be chrome transfers and decals in a Tamiya kit are rendered as very childlike clear stickers w/printing on them...simply awful and unacceptable for exterior emblems. My honest opinion is that it's about a $5 model...on a good day. The Tamiya Benz models are worth the extra money....beautiful detail, easy to build, oozing with quality...one of my favorite builds of all-time was a 600 SEC.
