Unhappy stereo wiring woes

I am trying to install a Cd player into my 89' toyoto pick-up and I'm having plenty if headaches. There is no diagram for the wiring in the original manual and we seem to have misplaced the Haynes manual. There are only 2 speakers in the truck. The left side wires are purple & pink and the right side wires are blue and light green. The only wires left are brown, red, grey, and blue(grey stripe), and dark green. I can't get power to turn the cd player on from any of these. I originally thought the brown wire to be the batt. power wire since its the thickest and the red to be the ing. switch wire because its running towards the ign. and it wasn't a part of the original harness clip. The ground for the original stereo was just a wire running to the body of the stereo itself so I decided to bolt the gr. wire to a metal bracket just below the center counsil. I had no response so I unhooked everything and re-started. When I used a borrowed power tester light it told me the the blue(grey striped) was the power with the ing. turned over but with ign. off there wasn't power from any wire. Does any one know what the power, ing., & grd.(if any) wires are cause I tried every senerio and came up empty. I greatly appreciate any knowledge or answer on this topic. Thanks!

That might help you a bit. I'm not sure if it's the same deal though, you said yours is only 2 speakers. But maybe what I had to do is a start in the right direction. Good luck.

Re: stereo wiring woes

Try your local library, they may have repair manuals that you can copy the wiring diagram from.

if all else fails try to get one of those voltometers, that'll tell you the ground and power, and if you dont' have any luck try drilling a small hole through the firewall and straight to the battery, i did that for an amplifier of mine

Re: stereo wiring woes

wire it all fresh. all that stock wiring should be up graded wont take much time and will be worth it use at least 12 gauge wire and slap in some rear speakers in the back to compliment your new sounds check your fuses in and out
