power mods 1994 3.2 V6 trooper
Hi there -
can anybody out there give me info on power mods to my swb 3.2 V6 1994 trooper. So far installed K&N and with ram air, much cooler and better oil presure. Was thinking of exhaust - can the cat come off? Do they work well with a free flowing back box? Has anyone rechipped the ecu etc? Also with the cost of petrol in the uk I am looking to change over to LPG-has anyone heard of any problems. Just brought my bighorn back from NewZealand so finding hard to get info over here! Great Site thanks Leebson |

Yikes, you want to put a used Jap import onto LPG? Yikes. I can see several problems. An already worn engine never designed to run on LPG may suffer problems with bearings and compression. Especialy if any fuel gets into the oil, and or cleans carbon from around the piston and combustion chamber. LPG also requires its own unique fuel map and ignition timeing that is quite differnt from whats required to run on petrol. You will need to find someone in the UK who can run the vehile on a dyno and reprogram the ECU, assumings its possible, or you will need to run an aftermarket piggy back, or stand alone ECU. If you want to use dual fuel then you will need a standalone system capable of switching between two fuel and ignition maps. As for tuning you need to find out where the engine came from, is it a GM based design? or a Honda V6, or unique to Isuzu? This will help you track down performance parts. But like any engine will respond to the basics, exhaust, intake, differnt cam, forced induction etc. Your problems will be finding parts, many might have to be custom made, and find out what the engine can handle. The stock ECU might only handle certian levels of upgrades before it needs replacing or retuning. You might want to try and contact Strong Bro's Honda here in NZ. http://www.hondapart.co.nz/ They have a side operation dealing in Bighorn and trooper parts, since many were badged as Hondas in Japan. They are I believe the only used parts supplier in NZ with any real knowledge base and a good supply of parts. Someone there should be able to tell you much of what you need to know, and may have access to performance parts from Japan. They are quite a big company though, and tend to be very busy, so it may take a little work to get any info out of them. However in my dealings Iv always found that a little patiance and lots of manners has yielded good results, and they have been very helpful in the past.
