Question daytime running lights

I have a 96 chevy 1500 pick up. The DRL quit working and at the same time my headlights got dim. I changed the bulbs to halogen. That helped some but not bright enough yet. Any suggestions???

The drl's on my 96 quit about a year ago...didn't like em anyway.
