93 Nissan Pickup Starter Problem
I have a 1993 pickup in which the starter or maybe the relay finally went out. Before it went dead, I would have to turn the key back and forth a few times before it would engage the starter. This just go worse of the course of a year and now it finally won't engage at all. My old neighbor I bought it from says it could be the relay. Anybody know how I could find the relay that controls the starter and determine whether it works? Is the starter hard to get to on this model? My mechanic buddy says it is but my old neighbor says it's easy to get to.
Thanks (if you are able to reply, just assume I'm not the most mechanically minded person) Steve |

your relay should be in your relay box in the engine bay. should have a cover over it with the labels of the relays on top...

Re: 93 Nissan Pickup Starter Problem
I've replace my starter on this model truck three times. It's a tough one. I jacked up the truck and removed the right front tire. It also helped to remove the rubber divider in the wheel well to gain access. I'm not a pro just a guy that fixes my own truck sometimes. There may be an easier way....???

Re: 93 Nissan Pickup Starter Problem
I've had the same problem on my '93 Nissan pickup. I replaced my starter, the same way as described above. First I thought it was the battery then after replacing the starter I tore the old one apart and the windings pretty much decintagrated and I'm lucky it lasted that long.
My new starter does the same thing here and there but if I keep turning the key it'll start. I'm not sure if it works but I let it crank a few extra milliseconds longer and usually it will stop if not the first then at least by the second. My dad had told me that the after market starters probably were put together wrong in that after a crank it will not be in the correct position and therefore be harder to catch and turn. This is quite a problem when it happens but doesn't so much after I replaced the starter. But after absorbing the cost of a starter I think I can live with it a little while. Those starters are quite small to last as long as they do, shoot my hand drill motor is almost as big as the starter! Hope this helps, KZXten |
