I was hoping someone could help me out. I have a 93 honda accord that will only run sometimes. If it's too hot outside, it won't start (sometimes it'll start after it sits a while, but not always) I put a new alternator & battery in it & it worked for 1 whole day & now the tester says the battery's dead. could it be a relay? Any suggestions appreciated.....thanks

These are the possible problems you might have, according to the symptoms you described.
1. Engine hard to start when hot -possible problems: Air filter clogged Fuel not reaching fuel injection system corroded battery connections (especially ground) 2. Battery will not hold a charge. -possible problems: Alternator drivebelt defective or not adjusted properly. Battery terminals loose or corroded Loose, broken or faulty wiring in the charging circuit Short In vehicle wiring. Internally defective battery. I got this from a complete repair manual for 90-93 Accords. I hope it sheds a bit of light on your problems! |

Re: 93 honda accord
Sounds like a main relay for the reason it doesn't start when hot outside. The reason the battery is going dead is harder. Need to find out if there is a load on the batttery when everything is turned off. Need to find out if the alternator is actually charging the battery. Some things can be determined with a light bulb and wire. Other things will require a cheap Radio Shack volt/ohmeter.

I too have a 93 EX with simular problem. I replaced the MFR (main fuel relay) $66..dealer not it. If you hear the fule pump run for 3-5 sec after you turn on key this is not your problem..open fuel cap and have someone turn the car on. If no fuel pump this may be problem.
Next is spark. Take you distributor cap off and see if its all caked up with crud on contacts and rotor. You rotor and cap are suspect. If it looks good then it is the ingnitor and or coil. Look up specs on this fourm and test coil first...Good luck! |
