my top speed

i know there are a ton of threads on this but i was on the highway racing my friends WRX, (i have a 95 SL, 100k miles) and we were going and he was beating me pretty bad and this was at 90+. well my top speed reached about 125 and never kept going up, my rpms were at like 5k but my speed wasnt increasing. whats up with this? i thought SL's could go at least 140. also i was pulling away from him went we first gunned it at like 45 but once we took it to the highway i was toast. is my speedometer off or is my car just slow because of age? i also have this horrible squeeling noise at certain rpms but doesnt sound like belts. just wondering why i couldnt go any faster. by the way its an ATX.

Re: my top speed

was the tach bouncing on 5k or was it just a steady 5k? cuz i know on my S10 theirs a speed limiter at 90 and it will bounce the rpms from like 4k to 3700 then back to 4k to limit my speed.(and cuases a head bobbing effect) I'm not sure if SL's have speed limiters like that.

not on the 3/S N/A cars, go look at the gear ratios between ATXs and MTXs, you'll see what i'm talking about

Re: my top speed

Could have been anything...tire pressure, wind, alignment...at those speeds, any little thing can bring down your top speed.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: my top speed

you know what i think my alignment is off that could be it. also in what way would tire pressure affect it? would it be low tire pressure or high tire pressure making my top speed go down. it was pretty windy too but that didnt seem to slow down the WRX
