Smile Newbie's 1st Side by Side

For starters its all thanks to the teachers, if it wasnt for them wanting more money I wouldnt have done it.

Went went to all see a movie, "Riding in Cars with Boys". At about 9:00pm, long after the movie finished we all went out to a long back road just out of town.

My Friends drive a Honda Accord Auto 2.0 and a Honda Prelude 2.0, I on the other hand drive a Holden Commodore 2.0 Auto. (Not Dream cars).

So anyway, my mate in the Prelude lined the Accord and me up, side by side and not much room in between us. He got us ready then yelled 3-2-1-Go! With that I planted my foot down on the GO Pedal and took off. I noticed the Accord had kept up on its on accord, so I changed it in to 2nd. Just then he started creeping forward abit and noticed that he most be still in 1st reving it out to its max or was all ready in 2nd and was faster. We were neck and neck as I slowly gained infront 110 kmph in 2nd then I changed it into Drive.

Zoom! I hit 120-150 just like that and left him behind, I only went to 160 as its a 3 spd Auto and its not built for speed, but when we stopped about 2km down the road. He was a red as a tomatoe. LOL

He even took the Spare tyre out to lighten him up.

So I guess next Friday is the Prelude?

Would you think I would have a chance?

great kill man, as for goin against the prelude, i think the fact that he's manual and you have a 3 speed is gonna be your downfall, but you might have a chance

either way, best of luck to ya!

i dont know what you mean by 3 speed auto, if its L, 2, then 3 gears in drive, then start off in drive, start off with a break stand or you will get smoked, cause he will launch ahead of you at take off,
hold down the brake and accelerator at the same time, practice afew break stands, the idea is to get the car to squell abit as it takes off, but not too much.

and no, you dont have a chance... but see if u can keep up, or if u beat him at take off.

I am a bit suspicious as well. Ive gone up to 110 kph in 2nd in my car, but it has gearing much more sutible for highway speeds, while still having the torque to get me moving off the line. I dont know any cars that would be able to do that with a 2L. Even if the gearing was such so that it would allow you to run up to 110 in 2nd, it would be VERY slow off the line, with the gearing that would be required, you would need more torque to get you moving than most 2L's put out.

Im not saying its not possible, cause I dont really know much about the Commodore's, but it does seem a bit unlikely.

I don't know if it's BS........my Dad had an old '82 Cadillac sedan and it i remember right it had a 305 V8 small block in it.

Anyways, that thing would do 60-65 km/h in first gear, second would take it to 120-130 km/h, and third would carry it past that. It can definitely be done, so i know it's not total BS, and the quick speed jumping is accurate. When that Caddy was maxed in first, it would kick into second, and boy did it kick! we jumped 30 km/h in one second or less, so it sounds about right.

The only thing that doesn't sound right is the fact that it's a 2.0. That tells me 4 cylinder, and i'm skeptical about a 4 cylinder being able to pull off the same stunts as Dad's Cadillac.

It's fishy for sure, but i wouldn't scream "Bull Shit" just yet.........

Hey that is not BS at all. A lot of my friends have imports and they let me drive them and yes its very possible to be in second gear and be at almost 70 mph. Ive driven two Honda Civics over that but they were all stick. Im just kinda suprised that the Commodore didnt really mess up the tranny considering that you were quick shifting. So Hex be more precise next time. It sounds like

2nd Gear - 110 kmph

To start off Im not BS you. The Holden I drive has 1st, 2nd, Drive, Neutral, Reverse yadda yadda. The gears are spaced out and it isnt really a rocket off the line.

But I can honestly swear to you that it is 2 L and I can get to 110 kmph in 2nd Gear, but it is Red lining at that time.

I wouldn't lie, because newbies that lie are just sad people.

Thanks for the concern.

I am sorry but I don't buy it. 70MPH in second gear. Your cars engine would have to sustain an extremely high RPM to hold that speed in second gear. An RPM that I feel would have done some damage to your engine. You would have to be revving at least around 6000+ RPM. As for the caddy, BS, I don't buy that either. I am not questioning your kill, just the fact that you say you can go 70MPH or so in second gear.
