power my ice

aiight, i got a cyclone 1200 watt suppling power to my two panasonic 600 watt subs. i have an alpine head unit (50wX4) supping power to my rear 6x9 (255w each) lightning audio speakers, and my front stock speakers. needless to say, it sounds quite a bit scratchy. now i am looking at buying some infinity 6.5 for the front. what size amp should i buy to power my speakers, and just my speakers?? since the head unit puts out 200watts, should i factor that into the equation? for example, if i need 600 watts for the speakers, should i just buy a 400watt amp?? and is cyclone a good amp company?? oh yeah, what are some recommendation for cheap decent amps? since my amp is going to be hidden behing the back seat looks don't really concern me, just cost and effectiveness. are sony xplodes any good?? one more thing, does the fact that i only plan to run highs and mids off of it mean anything??

Re: power my ice

Cyclone, never heard of the company.
Panasonic = junk
Alpine HU = good, but not 200 watts. more like 20 something x4 RMS
Lightning Audio = junk

You should invest in some good equipment. And why did you buy 6x9's for your rear before the replacing stock door speakers?

Anyhow, which Infinity speakers exactly were you looking at?

Re: Re: power my ice

well everything came with the car... the head unit says right on it 50 watts X 4. the "junk" subs make my windows shake so i am more than satisfied, and its powered by the "junk" amp so... anyways when i raise the volume up, the speakers get really scratchy... i ain't trying to spend big money on the car's audio system, but i just want something decent... and for the infinity's i was looking at maybe some kappas since i don't really care about the bass...

Re: power my ice

50x4 is not RMS buddy.
Any set of subs with an amp will shake windows.
Kappas handle 75 watts RMS, get a small 50x2 amp.
At that size pretty much all the amps are relatively cheap just pick one and go for it.

BTW: Sony car audio equipment is also junk.

Re: power my ice

You wanna power the 6x9s too, didn't know that. Best thing to do is go with a 4 channel amp then. Somewhere along the lines of 75x4 will be plenty.

hld up i was talking to my dad and he said that i will only be needing a 2 channel amp cuz each set of speakers can be put on one channel. and also if i only want to play mids and highs on the speakers will i need a crossover??

Re: power my ice

yah you can run each speaker in parallel but you want you your 6x9s to play lower than your 6.5s and the only way to do that would be to either install bass blockers or crossovers for your 6.5s.

Re: power my ice

6x9s do a decent job at making mid-bass frequencies. If you just want for backseat passengers to be able to hear lyrics, just get a 2 channel amp, if it has one, set the filter for high pass, set the crossover at a high frequency and be done with it.

Re: power my ice

600 watts is over kill. The infinities handle 75 watts RMS, I'm willing to bet your 6x9s don't handle more than 125 watts RMS a piece. You don't have to have that much power going to them unless you like to have your music up full blast to the point where it distorts and needs all that power to play.

Re: power my ice

Wal-mart brands will cut it. With the equipment you have right now it'll never really sound spectacular, I mean like competition level.

The speakers being 4 ohm is optimal. You can run your left side speakers in parallel to the left channel and right side speakers in parallel to the right channel and all will be good in audio land.
