Looking For A Car
Hey dudes,
Yea I need ideas for a car. Ive slowly realized that drifting is stupid. Dont ask me why, it takes a long time to explain, but I get more satisfaction out of pulling a fast, smooth lap, or doing a quick straight run. Im looking for a car that can be fast on a small budget. Say, around...$5000-$6000. It can either be cheap and done up for that price, or it can have that as a base price. Import, domestic, it doesnt matter. I'd ideally prefer RWD, but I am open to all platforms. Also something not that common would be nice.

Re: Looking For A Car
2 words, five liter. You could get a fairly good condition one for around 1,500-2,000 and have the rest for mod's. And be alot more reliable then that of a DSM.

basically it boils down to preference. if you want an import, a DSM would be a cheap way to get something decently fast. if you want a domestic, you can probably pick up an LT1 f-body or surely a 5.0 mustang. with little mods, you can get low 13s easily.

Re: Looking For A Car
1970-78 S30 Datsun Z.
That covers the 70-73 240z, the 74-74.5 260z and the 75-78 280z. 2300lbs, 2500lbs, 2800lbs respectively. Stay away from the 1979-1983 S130 280zx's. Comfy cars, but a bit too heavy. Anywho, they're lightweight RWD coupe/hatchbacks as you know. And have excellent aftermarket support. Take a 240z, swap in a 280zxt motor. The L28E-T, add intercooler and some boosty goodies. And you've got an easy 13 second car (with room to go faster) that can be made to handle extremely well. And if you play your cards right, you can probably buy a 240z with everything done that i've mentioned within your budget. Or you can build one for the same price if you get 90% of your stuff off Ebay. Ebay, the tuners discount warehouse.

Ive seen a few older rx-7s/supras/datsuns that had small block Chevrolet motors in them that hauled ass. That would be a little unique and you could probably get it done in your price range. If not, (as mentioned above) an older 5.0 or camaro can be bought cheap and made fast with a little work. As always the DSM's are good choices for cheaply going fast. The Moderator "Polygon" on this forum has a turbo charged Lebaron which would be a fun car to make go fast and a little unique to your area (if you could find one). A turbo charged vehicle like that can be bought pretty cheap and im sure it can be made to go fast with the rest of the money you have. Basically anything older that was turbo'ed from the factory or an older 5.0 or camaro.

Re: Looking For A Car
89-91 BMW 325i. Their light weight Rwd and the stock engine takes to turbo well handling up to 300whp on the stock internals. And of course being a BMW they can handle like a mofo. A very nice 325i can be had for 3000 or you could get a fixer upper for even less then that. I have seen them for under a grand even but you would have to look. You could also get a pre 89 325i but most people like the look of the 89-91 bumpers better.

Re: Looking For A Car
I find it ironic that he said "something not that common would be nice" and the first 2 responses were DSM and 5.0 liters ... lol ... is there anything more common than them?
I vote for MR2.
