02' Fuel Filter and buzzing

I don't think one has to do with the other...

But I need to replace the fuel filter on my mailbu, can I get 1.2.3. instructions on where it is EXACTLY placed on my car? My dad went to change it last week, but was unable to locate it...

Also, my car has started a sort of humming/buzzing... I notice it most when I change from drive to reverse or park. Transmission? I haven't had it serviced yet, my car is at 70K, but wasn't sure if it's something that is absolutely necessary, or something the dealership is just trying to talk me into. Sort of sounds like it's coming from the right front end of the car. Almost like something's loose? I do have my car serviced EVERY 3k miles ON THE DOT, but as of last service, they haven't said anything.

I heard a high whine coming from the rear of my car when going into reverse this afternoon, didn't come back, but it's something that will need attention.

1) Asking for the location "EXACTLY" is not only rude but asking to be spoon feed.
2)No offence to your father but he either didn't know what he was looking for or didn't look hard enough.

Regardless here's a trick that I use for sensors that need replacing on other peoples vehicles that I'm not sure where the location is. I buy the part then search for that same component in the general area of where it should be found. In your case, buy the filter start at the gas tank and follow the fuel line until you get to the filter. I'll give you a hint. My 2000 is near the tank.

I thought that asking for detailed instruction then asking in caps for exact location was rude. Yes we are here to help each other but people have to be willing to help themselves also. If you don't know what a fuel filter looks like then just say it. Don't say you can't find it if you have no clue what it looks like or haven't even made an attempt to locate it. Regardless, I did give a sure fire way of finding it.

As for the location of the fuel filter, it is towards the back of the car underneath the gas tank. It is a silver cylindrical metal object, about 6 inches long, with a gas line at each end.

Just a note on the fuel filter it is a cylindrical shape but they are not always silver. I have seen a few that are painted black. The new ones from the auto parts are sometimes a gold color too. JUST A NOTE<-----uh oh I put that in caps!! HA HA HA

Well, let's see... so, in my saying that I would like directions on where to find a part, that's rude? Maybe I'm not trying to waste people's time... that could be a clue. I had read somewhere else on this forum someone else's directions on where to find the part, but when my dad was underneath my car, OMG! he was unable to find it...even with the previous poster's information. Now, it could have been because he wasn't doing it at a good time of day, or didn't have enough light, or possibly, as the mechanic who did end up changing it said, it wasn't in PLAIN site (oh, there I go being rude again with all caps, however, this forum doesn't allow HTML coding, so, I couldn't italicize things that I'm trying to make important, thus the only way through normal typing available is thorugh ALL CAPS!).

And honestly, this might be a common sense thing to me, but generally, when you are replacing a part on a vehicle, you buy that part before you take the car apart. Yes, we did have the part, no, he just wasn't able to see it.

You are probably the most unpleasant poster I have yet to see on this forum. I've been searching/lurking for weeks for the information that I asked about... I didn't just jump right in and be all whiny and expect someone to find me the information I was looking for right away, I searched the forum, read every post that had the word fuel in it, and still wasn't finding what I needed EXACTLY.

I'm SOOOOOOOOOO sorry that I offended you by asking for a concise way to do things, I know that it's much easier for people to ask in a round aboutway, get roundabout answers, and have to continue to keep seeking help. So, I'll DEFINITELY keep that in mind next time...

A simple question like: “Where can I find my fuel filter?” would have sufficed and probably given you your answer almost right away. Your posting sat for 8 days and was viewed by over 40 people prior to my posting. Did no one know where it was located? Maybe, but my guess is they ignored it because of the way you wrote it. If you don’t see a problem in the way you asked your question then feel free to post like that at all forums that you visit. Trust me, I was mild compared to some of the replies (if any) you would have gotten on other forums not necessarily automotive. Asking for 123 exact instructions conveys an air of I’m too busy to research the issue.

When I logged on to the site I specifically looked for postings that had no replies so that I can possibly help/respond to those postings. Yours was actually buried on the second page. Was my posting rude? Yes but at least I was honest with you instead of ignoring it.

I’m glad to hear that you used the search engine. It’s a valuable tool and is under utilized. That is another pet peeve of mine. People that post without even doing a search. It’s unbelievable how many times I’ve seen a posting where the answer was located 5-6 postings prior. If the answer is buried in achieves, I try to point these individuals to the search engine or give them a link to the post. This is typically dependant on how much time I have to do the search myself.
