i dont think there is anything wrong with body lifts... they are a cheap way to get more tire room while keeping your center of gravity low.....

but i'd lower a truck instead....

Re: Body lift

I agree body lifts look horrible, unless you spend the extra money and get the brackets and raise your bumpers as well. That way you will not have these unsightly gaps between the body and the bumpers.

About the lift, I do know someone who has one on his truck. He's not particularly pleased with it, but doesn't have a specific complaint. If you're getting it for looks, do what you like best. If you're going for offroad capabilities, definately go with a suspension lift. You'll have more clearance and better articulation.

Re: Body lift

I have a body lift on my 98 Z71 ive been lifting trucks for years and chose this rout because i did not want to comprimise the ride (comfort) and a suspenssion lift wil do just that. A set of nerf bars will hide the frame just fine. I have so many compliments on my truck.

Re: Body lift

the only reason i was thinking body lift was cuz its a cheap way to get bigger tires w/o funkin up the handling of the truck. i do a lot of offroading but the only coplaint i have heard from ppl i know is that it will cause a very noticable cab-creaking that could get annoying but mine already creaks as is.

Re: Body lift

I have installed probably a hundred body lifts. I would not have one on my own truck. Mainy because I use my truck for hauling loads, I drive on rough roads. Body lifts do not like body shift and eventually will come through the floor board if the truck is used hard. This is not an opinion it is fact. The longer it is on the vehicle the more stress is put on all the body mounts. There will be some that will argue the the body lift on their truck has been on there for years without any problems. My answer to that is they either do not use the truck (highway truck) or its coming. Yes it is a cheap way to jack up a truck but it is no where close to the best way.

Re: Body lift

As far as lift kits go my truck rides a hell of a lot better with the 6" RCD kit that comes w/bilsteins than it ever did stock, I have a body lift and if you think you just install a body lift and all is well, well theres more to it, first you have a gap between the frame and the body now, so you need gap guards, they keep mud & water away from your starter (some don't work too well when wet) Your fan shroud now hits you fan, got some custome fabrication to get it to not hit and it also helps hold your radiator in place so it needs to be fastened to the core support pretty well, Now you engine is not lifted so you need to make sure the stock aircleaner houseing that goes into your fender is clamped good so it doesn't pop off the fender and maybe fall into your serpentine belt and make a bigger problem. Your bumpers will need the mounting kits to raise those with the body which now makes your bumpers more of an aesthetic part than actual bumpers, I had my mounts welded in so the bumpers still were "bumpers", your hitch is now somewhat a "drop hitch" and That's about it otherwise theyre a real inexpensive way to lift your body. My trucks pretty rust free by the way! So I wouldn't wory about the mounts popping thru-another thing to consider if your in an area that salts the roads. Remember go as wide as you go high!

Re: Body lift

Every truck ive ever had ive put a 3" body lift on, mainly cause i didn't want to pay extra for the susp lift. My 98 Z71 now has a body lift. The gaps dont bother me, i even left my bumper down cause the bumper looks better 3" low than the exhaust and hitch looks 3" lower. One thing i dont like is how the frame below the doors now shows more than it did before and i keep my truck clean and its hard to keep that nasty frame clean. I think the best looking setup is 3" body lift , 33x12.50r15 all terrains, and 15x10's. my opinion
