Personally, I find it sad that Mazda's rotary cars have disappeared. The RX-7 is no longer sold in the states ('95 was the last year).
However, here are some pics about some Rotary concepts of the past, present, and future... The RX-8 (as it was called) was supposed to be a rotary miata, but was cut pretty quickly into the planning. I think it looks awesome in this sketch. ![]() Here is the RX-01 concept. This surely won't make it to production, but I think it should. It would be wonderful to have an alternative to regular piston engines at that performance level. ![]() ![]() Of course, the RX-EVOLV is now going into production under the title of RX-8. This should be a good performer, but I think styling should be a little sportier, and sleeker. ![]() ![]() On the bright side, Ford is working to cut emissions on the Wankel Rotary, perhaps to get more of them into the states(?)!

also, don't forget the good ol' Cosmo
![]() ![]() ![]() It also had a rotary that produced 280hp, and had to be de-rated by 25hp in order to comply with the limit... Great looking car. By the way, the new RX-8 concept SUCKS! what is it? a sports car? a 2 door sedan? the thunder bird copy? I really don't like it. |

Ah yes, the wonderful Cosmo. 20B...yummy! Too bad they aren't here in the states.
I agree that the RX-8 is a little strange looking, but I think it's pretty good. It'll be nice to see what the aftermarket has for it (especially in Turbo's!). But yes, it's a sports-coupe. I think the rear windshield just looks a little out of place. But, I like it.

I really regret selling my '91 convertible now, as I didn't appreciate that vehicle until it was gone.
When the RX?? goes back into a convertible model, the local Mazda dealer will find me waiting for their door to open. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Screw the RX-8 body, I want the ENGINE! I'll be the first at the wrecking yard when one gets totalled. I want that new 280 something hp N/A rotary to put in an old R-100, RX-2, or RX-3. If I cant find one of those, an old Datsun 510 will work.

Another choice for the RX-8 motor would be an awesome sleeper mini truck!! Take a Mazda truck that is badged B2300, slip that beautiful rotary under the hood, and give some Ricky Racer boys hell!!!

Whats this new rotary gonna sound like, is it gonna have a traditional rotary noise or is it gonna sound more like a piston engine because every successive rotary sounds less and less like an original one in a RX2 or RX3 or series 1 RX7 or whatever.
Whats the fuel economy gonna be like?

I personaly like the RX-8. Could be better but I still like it. The RP-01 is cool too.
The RX-5 (rotary MX-5) will be build at a later date as will the a new updated RX-7 I believe. We have a 20B JC Cosmo like the top one of the two pics above. Very nice cars. We are selling it now though to pay for the 20B we have to go into our RX-7. It currently has a supercharged 13B, that will go into our 323 we have. I am in New Zealand. have attached a pic of our RX-7, what do you think? |

Honda Guy, they are Simmons from Australia. You can get them made to any offset and stud pattern, from 15-18" in diameter and up to 13" wide.
This style is known as 'OM' design. They are available in a number of colours, charcoal, gold, silver, polished and can be painted a custom colour at exta cost. These wheels are 16x7 and 16x8 and cost us $3500NZ with tyres to give you an idea. You are in the US? I think there are dealers in the states for Simmons. I think this is their web site address www.simmons.com.au, I think. |

Yeah, Mazda is Working on a New Rx7 based on the new Renesis engine which has much better performance than a Third gen & without the turbocharger. If they turbo charge that Sucker, damn, that thing will be crazy. Getting an Engine would be nice too. I would Love to put in one of those new engines in my 1975 rotary pickup. It would kick ass to all the little wanna-be racers out there. Oh yeah, motor trend tested the car and they say it still has that familiar rotary sound.
