Jerkyness when shifting to 2nd

What's going everyone,

Been experimenting all of a sudden a fairly noticeable jerkyness when I'm shifting into 2nd. It is not smooth at all, and even when pulling down into the gear it feels as if I'm pulling it down twice... (ie: halfway, slight pause, other half.. jerk a bit, in gear...) 3rd 4th and 5th are fine. Any ideas? Also, sometimes I have problems getting into first.. as if it's not even there. This usually happens when I'm at a stoplight waiting in neutral. It will go halfway into first (atleast I think) with no room to move it up further causing it to grind. I end up having to wiggle around in neutral then force it back into 1st, by this point the car in front is quite a ways away. Are the two problems related? Any advice would be great. Thanks.

How long have you had your car? Has it always been like that?

i dont know anything, i mean anything about gearboxes, trannyes, differentuals. but you might try changing the tranny fluids. and replacing them with some of the newer synthedic stuff they have out. might make things a little smoother. might be your sincroids going bad. but first things first.

Mine would occasionaly jerk when letting out the clutch to engage second. It turned out to be a bad trans mount on the front control arm. Just a thought

I've actually only had the car for about 3 weeks now. It didn't do this when I initially got it. Must have been me and my poor shifting at first that must've lead to this.

wow i just got on this site to post a message asking the same question hmm. well what i was going to say was im thinking of buying a 1992 eclipse and i test drove it and the engine runs awsome but when i shifted into 2nt gear the car would jurk to the right i dont know if thats just the wheels trying to spin or what? and when i down shifted it woulden't go into 1st it would just grind until i was down to about 5 mph then it whent right in. strange oh and do you all think i should buy it hes selling it for 2000 but im pretty sure i can get it for 15 or $1600 the car has pretty good paint its not fadded and only has a few chips and scratches but nice for its year and it has 125000 miles on the body and 70000mi on the engine and the clutch was just replaced. when i asked the guy why it had trouble going in 1st he said it probly had to do with the kid that had it before him he said the the kid was really hard on the car and street racing and stuff and burned out the clutch thats why he just replaced the clutch. but the engine prr's like a kitten the only thing it needs is the power steering belt that he just replaced to be tightened.

if anyone knows about the transmission problem i would like to know if its somethink thats going to brake and need fixing or if the problem is just going to be anoying. i can live with not down shifting in to 1st but i dont want to have to take the car to a shop to be fixed that can get expensive! any help would be VERY apreshiated. <--- lol i dont have a clue how to spell that!
