Angry Interior light-ON/Speedometer-1/2OUT/Rear Def. Out

2000 Dodge Neon- Now the interior light stays on. The "door" indicator shows above the digital odometer. It (the light) does go out after the car is off for a long period of time. I checked the fuse. I also checked all of the door "pins" for wear. The connections look fine. I haven't checked the voltage (not sure where too check).

Could the three problems be related electricly?

Originally, on the speedometer, 1/2 of the lights are out. 0-50MPH is very very dim. 60-120MPH are fine. Not sure what it could be. Are there seperate lamps behind the panell?

Next, the rear defrost went out. See thread at: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=324660

Now the int. light!!!

None have been fixed yet!!!

Anyone??? Bueler? Bueler?

The speedo has seperate bulbs for different sections of the speedo. So its most likely just burned out bulbs. Fairly expensive bulbs I might add. 5 to 9 dollars each!

The defroster could be many things. 1 does the red LED light come on when you turn it on? If not then it could be the module or a blown fuse.
the defroster switch and module are 1 piece and easily replaced.
if it does I would check to see if the connectors where the wires connect to the rear window are connected well. one of the wires goes to the body of the car (ground) it could be loose there under the rear speaker covers I believe. If you have a test light or a meter you can test for the presents of voltage at the connectors. if you get voltage at both or none at both when the LED is on then there is a problem.
Both showing power indicates a bad ground. lack of both indicates no power getting there.

as for the interior light, I don't understand what your saying.
The light stays on even after the door open indicator goes off?

or the door open light stays on and the interior light goes off?

if the door open indicator light goes off but the light stays on. make sure it isn't manually turned on by the headlight knob.

Re: Interior light-ON/Speedometer-1/2OUT/Rear Def. Out

Thanks for the replys. I actually figured out the interior light. The passenger side pin switch was not bering depressed all of the way when the door was closed. Still haven't been able to check the defrost more thouroughly. I'll prob. just replace the switch & hope for the best. Think I'll get to the spedo lights when it gets warm again.

Skatendestroy - You think my alternator is going? Funny thing! Guess it was about August when the car was just dead. Got it jumped & went to Adv. Auto Parts. They said it was a bad alternator. Started calling around for prices (pretty damn expensive alternator), someone at Autozone said to get a second opinion, so I did. They said it was the battery, so that's all that I replaced. Is there an easy way to check the alternator?
