1.8T Like it, Love it, tolerate it or hate it?

Hello all. I'm doing a lot of research on these vehicles and am curious as to how you feel about your 1.8T's.

For about a minute I was totally sold on the TDI RE: it's fuel economy and seeming upgrade-ability. After further research, I've run across a few things that caused me to reconsider.

What kind of mileage are y'all getting with your 1.8t? How have the maintenance costs been?

Any major reliability issues that seem to always pop up?

I have ruled out the VR6 RE: the fuel economy and weight. If I get a GTI / Jetta / Golf, it will have 1 of the 3 available 4 cyls.

Thanks

first off... weight difference between vr6 and 18t is minimal. fuel economy on a 18t will never match the tdi, likewise for vr6. if you want brute power, get the vr. if you want a nice torquey experience, 18t. if you want fuel economy then get the tdi.

mod the tdi and make as much torque as a chipped 18t

i have a 18t, so personally i'd say that 18t > everything else.
average mileage i get is around 25 mpg (city & highway combined) if i use 91 octane (flame suit on) i can get up to 32 mpg (but thats also cuz my motor's not exactly stock...)
