beware of the mechanic

I am stuck. I dont know if i should go after the mechanic who worked on my car last. He did a headgasket and timing belt and within a week my car was running like crap again. I decided to pull the motor and try to build the car alittle and found out that all of the work he did was wrong. I could take the timing belt off by hand without releasing the tensioner. I could also see that the lower cover was broken off and never replaced and the cam angle sensor was cut and spliced back together when there was a plug to disconect it not 6 inches down the line. there are many bolts and fasteners missing, and my new mechanic said that he had seen better work performed by a 3 year old with a hammer. I was also told that the problems I was having were directly related to the fact that the work was done so poorly. I mean come on. a blown headgasket leading to complete fatal meltdown. I know it is possible but not to the point of damage that was done. Atleast thats what my new mechanic says....... What would you do? Would you make the old mechanic pay for the thousands of dollars of work that now must be done, Or would you cut your losses and move on?

Umm... Hellooo! Is there anything going on inside that seemingly waste of space, you call a head?

i'd say suck it up, be the dsm'er you are, and rebuild it yourself. thats what comes along with our cars, if your not upto it you should just move on. these are the things that make having a dsm fun. if you want a reliable car with little maitnence and you like shelling out $$ for somone to fix everything for you there is always smiths honda across the street from burlington mall..

Re: beware of the mechanic

Ok, if no one ever goes after mechanics like this then what would be their reason for not doing it again. I mean come on guys. Yeah go after him! Take his ass to court. I think you gotta pay like $60 or something to take him to civil court or just give some lawyers a call. I'm pretty sure they'll talk to you for free and tell you what's up. These people shouldn't be aloud to get away with this shit. You'll be doing a lot of other people a favor too that wont have to get screwed.

You could also report him to the BBB and I'm sure there's other stuff you could do too.

Seriously man, take him to court! THere is a difference between, resolving mechanical problems yourself (uh "sucking it up like a DSM'er??") and then getting your damn money back for the VANDALISM that mechanic commited on YOUR car. If that had happened to my car, i would have taken a tire jack to his ass, ya know???

You might be the only person that thinks blowing a headgasket and then getting screwed out of hundreds of dollars by your mechanic is fun.

I would talk to the shop and see what they are willing to do about it, if they give you the run around I would take them to court. You never know, they may be willing to fix their mistakes (I would hope )

Re: beware of the mechanic

i wouldnt let them try and fix it it sounds like they'll just fuck it up worse. get a quote to fix it from a respected shop (somebody from near there might me able to tell you one) and show the oldmechanic the quote tell him you're pissed and that you want him to pay for the damages to your car. if he cooperates good, if not take him to court.

just so you know I am already in the process of rebuilding a 6 bolt MYSELF..... I will be taking chip to court over this. my only hope is that it dont reflect bad on on chris. Chris owns the shop. He is the best "one of" man I know.
