What gears do i have?

I have a 94 camaro Z28 with a 6-speed and was wondering if anyone knew what rear end gears it has (stock) and also if anyone knew if any 98 and up came stock with 3.73 gears. The reason im asking is because my buddy has a rear end out of a newer Z28 with a 6-speed as well, and was wondering if i wanted to buy it, and i definetly would if it has lower gears than i do stock. I believe my stock gears r 3.42 but if anyone could help me out i would really appreciate. Oh and if anyone has heard of an auburn posi before. Thanks again.

actually 3.73 was an option on 4th gens, 3.42 was stock. i can remember cuz i ran the codes on the wrecked '97 hoping i had the 3.73 but i got a 3.42, still better than the stock third gen 2.73....

Re: What gears do i have?

SLP put 3.73s on the SS but 3.42 was as high as the factory went...

Re: What gears do i have?

thanks for the info guys, really appreciate it. I heard u can check any rear end gears by jacking the car up and marking the tire at one spot and rotate the wheel one full time and count the turns in the drive shaft to get a ruff idea of what gears your workin with. Is that true?

Re: What gears do i have?

SPID lable. i dont remember exactly where it is on fourth gens, i think its in the driver door sill. but look for the code that is GU#, that code tells you what gear ratio you have. like a GU2 is a 2.73 i think. but dont quote me on that i left my book at home, and im studying for finals, so i dont have time to look it up.
