240SX good for a first car?

Hey everyone, Im wondering if an S14 is a good first car. Something with good gas mileage, dependable, and possibly a back seat (not sure if it does). But I also want something I can put some power into (trust me, I wouldn't rice it out). Anyways, I was wondering if it was an overall good car.

For the price this is probably the best CAR... not to Pricey, Good Gas Mileage (22-24), Power and Power Potential, and yes a back seat

Cheap? Yea maybe buying one but insurance is 240 a month for me and im 16. Im also on the countries cheapest insurance company. So, you decide. You need to call up your insurance company and find out about the money, we wouldn't know.

Why do you say 22 to 24 mpg? Mine gets over 30.

Re: 240SX good for a first car?

first off, you have to look than more than 2 seconds on ebay, why dont you consider the s13??, im getting one on sunday, that has no body damage and has 115k miles on it. It is only $1250, its a 5 speed, has 1 tear in the seat and rust under the spoiler(go figure). This is my second car, (my first car was also a s13) and they are F#$@ing awesome, i love them, and would highly suggest you get one, you wont regret it.

also, my insurance plan is with american family. I am on my own plan, and my insurance is $120 bucks a month, and I've totaled 1 car, which was my fault. I dont understand how urs could be the cheapest in the nation, and still be that high.

Oh yeah, I meant to put S13 there also, LOL. But anyways, I would be satisfied with either. I want something with under 100,000 miles.

Re: 240SX good for a first car?

My first car is an S14 and I wouldn't trade it for anything. It's very reliable, but mine doesn't get good gas mileage since I put on a head and cat-back. My insurance is also high...266/mo....it's the cheapest I could find....my dad is in the military too so I have access to all that cheap stuff(but it didn't help car ins.).

Re: 240SX good for a first car?

yea you all are lucky i have my s13 and my insurance is 260 a month...then again that is full coverage...also with a speeding ticket on there...i recomend the s13 also...after owning a very wide variety of cars...(86 nova, 87 feiro gt, 1980 camaro z28, 87 firebird forumla, and now my 93 240 with sr motor) i can honestly say that this is the funnest car i own and have ever owned...

actually puttin in a header and exhuast would increase fuel efficency because it reduces the exhuast restriction by freeing up the exhuast.

before i put bolts on's in my car, i would average 240 miles per tank.

after i put bolt ons, my mileage can go over 300 miles per tank.

Provided you don't drive with a lead foot.

no clue. maybe your just flooring the car more.

logically speaking, your stock intake is restrictive, your stock exhuast is restrictive, your stock exhuast manifold is restrictive, and your stock weight crank pulley is heavy.

by reducing all of these burdens, it frees up alot more power, and the engine has to strain less just to keep on running. it's been proven to make the engine more efficient. your the only person who i have ever spoken too in the 2 years i've owned my 240 along with everyone i meet at 240 meetings that had their fuel economy go down from bolt ons for normal driving.

if i was you, i would check your O2 sensor casue that is the first thing i would check if your having bad mileage.
