Thumbs up Pleasant Expiereance At Dealership (long post)

I just wanted to share the expierence that i had with a local GM dealership here. I had my truck in to a local corner garage here for what seemed to be an engine miss issue. They found no codes and did not really know what to do. Took it to GM and explained what was going on and they suggested, to save myself some money (that was the tech's exact words!!!!) I could try running injector cleaner through it first and if that did not help, try swapping out the #5 and 6 plugs (oh did i mention that they scanned it right there in the "vehicle reception service bay") and then if it did not get any better to then bring it in and they would look at it, then sent me on my way no charge. I followed their advice on the injector cleaner which made it seem to get better,(made me think it was an injector problem for sure) untill i refuelled. Took it back to the corner garage(I know them there and it is close to work) and had them purge the injectors/combustion chamber, which made no difference. Disconnected the battery to reset the computer which helped for about 3 weeks, then it started doing it again. This time resetting the computer did not help. Took it in to the corner garage again, this time with the understanding they were going to start tearing things apart to find this problem. Picked up the truck in same condition, they said they could not pinpoint the problem. This is where i had enough and took it to the dealership. They road tested it so they would know exactally what it was doing and when as well. Called me to get approval for about an hours worth of diagnostic work and told me how much it would be. About 2 hours later i got a call saying they found 1) a real dirty IAC, 2)carbon arcing on 3 plugs which meant bad wires as well. I approved the cleaning of the IAC , told them i would change the wires/plugs. When i picked up the truck i found out they cleaned the IAC, cleaned the TB as well , installed a new fixed orface PCV valve, Removed and inspected the fuel rail and reinstalled it (was clean as a whistle) and spent almost an hour on diagnostics. The charge.......$210 , I really can not complain at all. This has really changed my persepctive on dealerships a bit i would say, at least Murray Chev Olds in Winnipeg anyhow.

Oh ya , also took the truck back the day after i changed the plugs/wires to have it scanned and codes cleared........at no charge as well. I am quite satisfied with the way i was treated.

it's nice to hear something positive for a change. Dealerships are just like any other business; some put more emphasis on customer satisfaction while others work for volume.

It's good to hear that not every GM dealer is a ripoff. Well, that's one in a row. Anyone else?

Re: Pleasant Expiereance At Dealership (long post)

My dad had a good experience yesterday. he took my truck whil I was at work ro get all the recals done. They took my truck about 30 min after he showed up, and even offered to "shuttle" him home and pick him back up when my truck was done. Not to mention he showed them the reciept from the strap i bought a few months back, which was the same defective one that was on their. They gave him a check for that cabel. I was impressed.

With todays high tech vehicles dealerships are the only way to go. Yes they may cost a whole lot more but at the end of the day you actually save time, money, and hassles. Independents just don't have the tools or know how for these systems. Good for oil changes and minor work, but thats about it.

They also gave me shuttle service home after i droipped my truck off , and when it was done the shuttle would not have been able to make it to my house to pick me up then get back to the dealership before it closed, so they sent a cab. The cab ride was $20 from my house to the dealership, which THEY paid for.

May be there are some more people out there that would like to say something nice about their dealer experiance.

Not all dealers are the same! they are independantly owned franchises..some are better that others.

OK, check this out.
I took my rig to the local GM dealer to get an oil change and while it was there up on the hoist also to get the rear diff oil changed. Didn't bother with a quote..how much could it be? 30 or so bucks for the oil and filter change and maybe 20-30 minutes labor to drop the rear diff cover, clean up and reinstall and fill. At least that how long it usually takes me.
When I picked up the truck at 6pm I was handed a bill for $295.00. I said there must be a mistake, I just ordered an oil change and rear diff oil change. I was told there was not...the oil change turned out to be $90.00...it was a PREMIUM OIL CHANGE I was told as I had close to 80000K on it. Never hearing of one I asked what was involved....drain oil, flush crankcase and fill with new oil with additive. Well, all I wanted was a simple oil change and not an unauthorized engine flush ( I ended up having all kind of oil leaks from the engine after that..but thats another story) For the rear diff service I was told that they charge a flat rate and that because it was under an hour they also surcharged the actual labor time to the invoice. Talk about double billing.
The moral of the story here is always get a quote...no matter how simple or minor the job may be.
Needless to say that was the last time they screwed me over.

Re: Pleasant Expiereance At Dealership (long post)

I brought mine in about 2 weeks ago after it started bleeding antifreeze all over. I have just over 41k on it, and the dealer told me that it would run about six hundo for the new water pump. I figured that it wouldn't hurt to ask, so I did ask if GM would help me out seeing as how water pumps aren't supposed to go to hell so quickly. He called me back two minutes later and told me that GM was picking up the whole tab. So yeah, the dealer has suprised this guy too.

I never get that lucky.

Re: Pleasant Expiereance At Dealership (long post)

I must agree. The last time I took my truck to an Independent I got hosed. I only trust Jenner Chevrolet here in Victoria BC. They may charge a little more like somebody mentioned a few posts before but, there is never any question afterwards and they always do great work.

Re: Pleasant Expiereance At Dealership (long post)

My dealership, Talarico, has done close to 20k in repairs on my truck. They consistenly do good work. They replaced my transmission and transfer case and have had few issues since. Quality service, shuttles, no free food though in the waiting room, but very pleasant people to deal with. Glad they don't offer a washing service...
