Question V8 Swap Tips Please

Hello Everyone,
I Have A 92 Camaro With An Unfortunate V6. A Guy That Lives By Me Has A Jasper Crate Engine (350 Fi) With 2000 Miles On It And Im Very Interested In Buying It For My Car. Ive Read Through Alot Of The Forums And None Are Exactly What I Need So I Thought Id Join So Hopefully Someone Could Help Me. With My Car Being A 92 (25th Anniversary) Rs Would My Tranny ,700r4, Bolt Up To A V8 If I Could Find An Adapter Kit? I Would Like Some Opinions Please, Thanks Alot....... If I Have The Wiring Harness, Ecm, And Engine Will This Be More Beneficial To Me? By The Way, I Know This Sounds Crazy But The Engine And Accessories Came From A 95 Chevy Truck. This May Be Something Stupid To Do So Thats Why I Wanted Some Expert Advice Thanks Again

Re: V8 Swap Tips Please

your 700R4 will bolt up directly to the 350, no adapter nessesary.

as for the wiring and such, if you set it up as a carbed engine, all you will need is fuel and spark. If you want to run all the computer systems and have it fully setup with factory wiring, youll have to contact painless wiring, ebay, or the junkyards and find a doner car.

you will need the ECM, wiring harness, all the sensors, fuel lines, radiator, radiator hoses, engine mounts, and about a million other little peices im sure im forgetting.

I have seen several MAF TPI setups for sale on ebay for reasonable prices. complete with intake manifolds and wiring harnesses ECM and sensors.

I would also send an email to www.fbodymotorsports.com and ask for their input on this swap as im sure they can not only tell you what you need, but probly sell it to you as well.

Re: V8 Swap Tips Please

v-6 tranny is the same as the v-8 tranny, it should hold up. and the kit install would make sense while you are doing everything else.

Re: V8 Swap Tips Please

thanks for clearing that up for me. that helps alot. what about the ecm on the truck as opposed to my ecm. could i change them out if the chassis harness plugs in to the truck ecm? i only ask this because im striving for knowledge in this area. thank you gentlemen. also i was planning on keeping it fuel injected. would it be a better idea to sell the fuel injection and make it carb? what do you guys think? thanks again

Re: V8 Swap Tips Please

well, as far as using the truck ECM, so long as you use ALL the parts from that setup, regarding the engine anway, it might work, but im not very familiar with that system, so i dont honestly know. I strongly suggest sticking with a TPI setup, with TPI ECM and TPI wiring harness that was designed for the car. it will be much easier and i can guarantee it will work.

as far as the 700R4 holding up, its the factory tranny that came with the 350 in the IROCs, i know because thats the factory setup that came with my 89 IROC. I put the B&M trans kit in mine with a few other goodies, and its an awesome setup.

as far as the choice between fuel injection and carb, its kinda a pay me now or pay me later setup. The fuel injection will be harder to install and set up, but in the long run will get better gas mileage, better driveability, better startup, and more power. the carb is a no brainer install, and will run just fine. but will get less mpg, cold starts will be a bitch, driveability will depend on the carb and the setup, and may need to be professionally tuned to run right. so the choice is yours, by far, if i have a daily driver it will always be fuel injected, performance car, always fuel injected, collecter cars, toys, and stuff to learn on, i would say carbed is ok.

hey continued thanks for the tips. i called some performance shop in my area and the techs there told me that i would not need to change my suspension because a v6 and a v8 take the same springs and shocks. you guys tell me to change it so what do i do? also they told me my v6 tranny (3.1 liter) will not bolt up!?!? im so confused! anyway thanks for the help..........im much more inclined to believe fellow camaro enthusiast's but just wanted to make sure.......thanks guys

Re: V8 Swap Tips Please

well the 700R4 is whats behind my 350 from the factory, weather or not there was a different one for the V6 i honestly dont know, but i dont think they would have done that, make two of the same tranny rather than make the bolt pattern the same?? which is cheaper? but as far as the suspension, no you dont have to change a thing, i hadnt seen that or i would have corrected it. the only different suspension was the Z28 suspention with larger sway bars, stiffer shocks, and such.
