Hi I am new to the site and a new owner of a 1996 Geo Metro 4 cyl. I have a couple of questions and would appreciate some help. My Metro has 155 80 R13's on it and a friend has some new 185 80 R13's that he is going to give me...will they fit without rubbing? Also my drivers window regulator is stripped out...here can I get a better price than the dealer ($81.76)??
Thanks in advance, Jeff |

Re: Help a Newbie Please
If you check out www.tirerack.com they're site tells you what plus options will work on the standard rims. When I put bigger tires on my stock rims I went to 175/70-13 which was apparently optional in 96. Dont know if the 180/80 would rub or not, but it would definately throw off your speedo...

Re: Help a Newbie Please
Why would it affect the speedo? The tire is only wider, the aspect ratio has not been changed! To find out about the rub issue measure the tire now and add 15 mm a pile of dimes would work, to each edge of the tire and check.

Re: Help a Newbie Please
The aspect ratio is a percentage of the tire width, so 155/80 should have a 124mm sidewall. A 185/80 would have 148mm sidewall (24mm more than on the stock tire. So if he is going to a wider tire, he would need one with a smaller aspect ratio to keep the overall diameter the same as the stock tires. In other words a wider tire, with a smaller aspect ratio can still maintain the same sidewall height and overall diameter as the stock tire. Hope that made sense, for more info look at this guide...

Re: Help a Newbie Please
This thing kicks arse!!! I put the 185 80 R13's on it and there is a little bit of rubbing that happens but only when I turn the wheels too far. I really like it now. It needs an axle shaft and a window regulator and handle and an antenna and a CD player but as soon as I get those items it will be good as new. I get the shaft (no pun intended) tomorrow morning and I just ordered an antenna.
Does anyone have an idea of what OEM CD players will work in mine? |

![]() Regarding the stereo, any two bay unit would fit on it. Mine has a single bay unit Rockford Fosgate RFX-9120 MP3, 2 500W RMS in the rear, 2 350W RMS and 2 200W RMS tweeters in the front. Almost forgot, also has a couple 350W tweeter in box in the rear (audiobahn). Sounds pretty impresive considering there is no amp nor subwoofer. ![]() Hope this helps, MC
