heat shrink springs
Ok, i have a 92 accord and i am wantin to lower it a bit.....not really for handling but mostly for looks (ive got some tenzo 17's bout to go on)
I've heard an easy way is to (evenly) heat your spring and it will make em compress...makes since but i just dont want to blow my shocks... I rode in a buddies car that had done this and it wasnt tooo bouncy so im thinkin this could be a easy way to just lower it.... If yall know this is a bad idea, let me know and ill look for a good susp. kit...but if this will work and not blow shocks COOOOL

Re: heat shrink springs
umm, its my belief that when it come to suspension, dont go half-ass, if u want to lower your car do it right. your stock springs werent designed to be modified, and even if u did lower your car the way you described, u still would need struts meant for lowered cars... Id just save up the extra money and buy a lowing kit.

That's what I did got the coilover sleeves off ebay $40, blew my passenger side front and rear struts, ended up having to get new ones, so I just got the whole TEIN suspension off ebay. |

Re: Re: Re: heat shrink springs
also. The only time heating or cutting springs should done is if there are absolutely NO aftermarket springs available and trust me there are tons of springs out there for your car.To heat the springs right it must be done in an oven with a special strap that will apply the same pressure to the fronts & rears for even spring rates. Dont be cheap with suspension or you will regret it in the long run. |

Re: heat shrink springs
u can cut them with a cut-off wheel and grind the top, but don't heat them up that is the worse. I say u buy a lowering kit too their about $300 or so.
