unbreakable?

If your a fan of infomercials, or just an insomniac, you've probably seen the "Unbreakable Auto Lock". Stop giggling please.

My car was just stolen, and stripped and now I have it back as a bone stock beast. I am gonna modify again but am a little p-noid about it getting jacked again.

I saw the auto lock on TV, and it seems like it makes sense as an added layer of security. Then again so did the Club for years, until I saw a steering wheel sawed through in like 30 secs.

Anyway, anyone with some opinions on this $60 piece. Anyone know any flaws I haven't thought of? Anyone out there have it? Is it snake oil or what. Thanks in advance.

the autolock would help but wouldn't stop it completely. if they can't get your car, they'll tow it away. but as far as the autolock, i think its the best device out there is right now

do you have one of these autolocks? If so, is it as solid as it seems, and is it a PITA to put on and take off everytime you use the car?

They ARE a PITA to get on and off but then again that would be the point wouldn't it? I have one and even with the KEY it is a bitch! Imagine what a thief would have to go through!

I think its cute they show the gun test... and how you can fire a bullet at it and it will still hold its own. Next time you see it, watch closely... they are firing at THE EDGE of the autolock facing them... sorta like...

bullet flight path ------> <>

With it turned, and the bullet hitting the very edge it will cause minimal damage ~ hell you could probably pull the test off with a hardened piece of ceramic!!!! But the point is, who wouldnt notice someone SHOOTING inside your car, plus if it does deflect theres about no where for the bullet to go except bounce around inside the car... frankly if I was a theif I wouldnt feel to sure of myself sitting inside a car as a bullet bounces around me...

But you said your car was stripped, an autolock isnt going to do DICK to prevent someone from stripping your car. Hell any idiot with two pieces of thin metal can take out about 99.99% of all aftermarket headunits from someones car in less then the time it takes for you to look at your vibrating alarm pager...

Im not saying alarms are stupid, because hell im ordering mine shortly... but you need to understand how an alarm works, how a theifs mind works ~ and you can do several things to protect yourself and your goods! I will be writing up a very informative piece in the coming weeks so keep an eye out for it!

i have an autolock too and they are a bish to get off with the key too, but like sparq said, any monkey can steal your whole shit and leave you a brake pedel and an autolock with out anything else there.

plus another downside of the autolock is that older cars can still be drivin with the thing on, by using the ebrake to stop, or just flatbed it.

nothing will ever fully stop car theivery(is that a word?) or stolen rides.

I'm getting my alarm in a week or so too. I had one on my ride but they still got it, but hey the insurance is paying for it so whatever. I'll probably get the autolock too. I mean $60 bucks is a small price for whatever security you can get. They can't start the car without the clutch, but if they want my car that bad they're gonna get it regardless. Maybe they'll use a blowtorch and the jaws of life.

Thanks for the input, and if it gets stolen again, look for me on the RSX forums. :silly2:

BTW sparq, I'll be checking for that post.

ahahaha, you cant start the car without the clutch? **BUZZER SOUND** nope try again my friend. Any car be it automatic or manual can have a remote start on it... so even WITHOUT the clutch pedal being depressed your car can be started and thus stolen...

Trust me, save your $60...

Damn dude, thanks for the info, but I gotta say that sucks. Even if they start the car, will they be able to get into reverse or drive without the clutch? I know you can shift, but wouldn't the car stall without the clutch being depressed first?

Sparq, what do you use for security? You park a pit bull on your front seat or something?

Would you suggest a kill switch? I just saw this thing that has a small microprocessor that is linked I think to the fuel line, starter etc. It supposedly is impossible to start the car without the chip, which you carry on your keyring. I don't know cost, but its probably expensive.

People dont realize one thing about those commercials... OF COURSE THEY ARENT GOING TO SHOW YOU THE CONSUMER THAT THEY FAIL!

Did The Club show the theif cutting the wheel and sliding it off? HELL NO, if they did no one would buy it! For an automatic, this device is literally crap... for a manual, its slightly more involved but again can be defeated. 3 words... 5 pound hammer...

They always show the device trying to be removed UP/DOWN... but anyone who pays attention in their science class can tell you about force and angle of attack and crapola like that... take your good heavy hammer, and hit the TOP of the device SIDEWAYS and there goes your precious Autolock!

But you started catching onto the good stuff... starter kills and fuel cut offs. If you dont want your car STOLEN this will be some of the best protection ~ and is it really so costly? I mean you spend $60 on an autolock and $40 for the club and $500 on an alarm system... all of which could be defeated in less then a minute ~ so if you spend say $450 for a basic alarm w/ fuel cut off and starter kill/interrupt is it really that much to pay?

I got a big black guy in mind, but actually he isn't black, is 5' 2" and his name is Henry so I guess I can't use him...so...I guess I'll go with a some kind of fuel cut-off switch if I can afford it now. I'll keep you all posted though.

igor4bmx, give Ben my number.

the best device are those starter/fuel kills they offer the best amount of portection for their price, sparq got it right again, you can easily remove these autolock devices with any heavy hammerish object.

plus 99% of manuals can be bump shifted into first with a rolling start or just use the screwdriver to the solenoid trick and voila, the car is running, plus you can always just grind the stick into the other gears, the car jacker is only interested in the parts so if he ruins your clutch he couldnt care less.

I was wondering was there any sort of alarm that would lock your tires up,or engage the emergency brake until the alarm is deactivated?
If they cant move it they cant steal it.Id love to see them get a car up on the flatbed with the em. brakes on!
