New To Hondas, Help me out with a Head question...

Hey guys, I am new to Hondas. My friend just got a 91 CRX HF it's in pretty good shape. The only thing I know about this car is that it is the fuel efficient model and that it has a 8 valve 1.5 liter engine and a pretty tall ratio tranny, 1st to second shift is so disappointing...

ok, so my question: My friend isn't into cars that much, and he doesnt want to spend money modifying this car, however he would like a little more power... I read somewhere that the model up from the HF came with a 16 valve head that has about 30 more horsepower. Does anyone know if switching the 1.5 8 valve head over to the 1.5 16 valve head is a BOLT ON procedure??? Are there any other parts necessary do to the switch over???

Any help would be appreciated...

i don't think it's bolt-on, and you're probably better off doing an engine swap for a D16, and switch over to Multi-Point Fuel Injection.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping to source my buddy one from a junkyard or something and give it to him for Christmas... Oh well, I guess he is stuck with 62 Horsepower... Ha Ha.

Thanks anyways, I'll be back.

By the way, can anyone reccomend a decent (yet cheap) header and Cat. that will go on the 1.5 8 valve engine??? I am going to make him a cat back exhaust, but I know we will have to ditch that tight little header...

Any reccomendations?

Re: New To Hondas, Help me out with a Head question...

If you want cheap, better use a 92-95 EX manifold
Much better design then the HF and any 88-91 manifold.
It will flow about as good as anything on the HF
Real headers are not worth the cash for that app
As for cat, stock for the 92-95 with the Manifold
It will work better and cheap.

Re: New To Hondas, Help me out with a Head question...

acctually you can put a 16 valve head on the hf bottom end, my friend did it. but it will knock constantly bc of the valves hitting the pistons (only have 2 valve space things on the pistons). I would go ahead and swap the engine.

LoL why the hell would you even suggest that heh.

Listen tell him he is fucked. I have an HF myself and that bitch ain't going nowhere untill the motor and tranny are swapped.

Intake and exhaust on an HF is like putting makeup on a fat nasty bitch.

Re: New To Hondas, Help me out with a Head question...

ahhh the hf...i hated my old one cuz it was all slow and no go..from the shift light to the rust i hated it lol but that thing got some sweet gas mileage so thats why i liked it. tell him not do anythin to it. have him save his money for a new engine.
