Reason for 02 Trailblazer 72,000 mile Engine Failure

Engine was pulled from car this week to reveal that someone stole the #4 cylinder piston.

The piston was gone due to a valve breaking and dropping into the cylinder.

Not bad considering that the #1 cylinder rocker arm came off the same engine 400 miles before this happened.

I am really happy that it happened this month, that way I can consider donating the car (pile of metal) and get a FULL BOOK VALUE as a write off. Starting Jan 05, you won't be able to do that any longer.

Thanks General Motors

Hard to believe this is the same company that engineered the "small block Chevy" V8 engine. I actually get depressed reading all the problems with GM engines these days, and it gets worse when I see the response from GM and the dealer service departments. Toyota is on its way to being the number one in sales in the world, and it's not hard to see why. Never thought I see the day when I'd own anything but a GM vehicle, that day is coming I'm afraid.

Tom, I am right with you on the day approaching when I no longer purchase an American made car. My grandfather had blackened fingernails from when he worked ata chevy plant putting together waterpumps. I always felt obligated to support those who supported him during his life. Fact is that the foriegn car companies have more faith in what they are building, hence the enhanced warranties. In order to match the warranties, US car manufactures are getting hit hard, because their products are failing, like mine has. The warranties in turn then cause the price of the vehichles to be raised. If not for the tarrifs on imports, the real market dynamics would be putting most of the US car product lines out of business. I wonder if the Government will comtinue to support these companies via tarriffs as much, if and when Toyota starts to manufacture , say ...tanks?
