Rattling noise
I was checking out this 1994 Crown Victoria that I have been looking at and When we started it up there was a little rattle that keep rattling under the car on the driver's side? Any clue to what it is? Of so, how would I go about fixing it?

What kinda noise were you hearing? Was it like a ticing (like a fuel injector going bad) or a puting (like a hole in the exhaust)? How does the noise respond with the motor, does it get faster or change pitch when you rev it up??? Just need some more info on the noise, a rattling could be caused by soooooo many diffrent things!!! Take another listen if you have to!

Re: Rattling noise
So what do I do to have it fixed? How much does it cost? Where do I take it to get fixed?

1st of all i could b totaly wrong if it rattles at idle thenits probly the heat wheild but it could b many things such as the exhaust system missing a hanger or many other things if it the heat shield u need to go under the car and look at were the exhaust system comes out of the engine there should be two squre like things on bothsides ( catalitic converters CATS for short) and on top of them there should b heat shields that basicly go over the cats to stop a lil bit of eat from burning up the floor board ther is also one under the cat to so if any of them are lose just rip them off i took mine off for the same reason and its not makin a differnce except for the noise is gone THIS STILL MAY NOT B THE PROB BUT JUST TRY THIS 1ST THEN IF NEED B TAKE IT TO A TRUSTED SHOP

You definatly should NOT take off the heat shields for the Catalytic Converter, those shields are there for a reason.During Operation the Converter(s) can get as hot as 1500F,and allthough you may not notice a difference, your engines wiring and various rubber coolant and vacumm hoses definatly will,as the excesive heat will be radiated out and deteriate them much faster than normal.Take it to a good Exhaust shop and it should'nt cost you any more than $50 to have them Fixed or Replaced.

Re: Rattling noise
It could very well be a broken Cat. Converter. I have one on my old 1994 that went....would rattle, especially when I was going WOT, then back to idle....

honey comb in...
the honey comb in the cat. is probably broken apart and rattling, I'm not saying that is definitely the problem, but that is what my car did and I had them remove my rear cats and gut the front cats, only problem is that my check engine light is on now, trying to find out of to make a MIL Eliminator to fix that problem...I'm pretty sure it's only a resistor and a capacitor, but I need the correct values. Good luck with your prob.

Re: Rattling noise
If it's the heat shield, you can take some large hose clamps and put them around it to hold it steady and kill the rattle.
If it's the cats, you have two choices, that is to replace the cats or remove the guts.
