Tahoe won't start....stalling

I have an 02 Tahoe that I have been having problems with. Sometimes it will start and stall right away. This can happen several times. Other times it looses all power and absolutely nothing happens when I turn the key. The other day the car lost all power WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. Lost all power - barely able to pull off the roadway - no hazard lights. I was able to start it again after a few minutes and drove the one mile to the Chevy dealer. They ran diagnostics on it and found no problems and could not duplicate the problem (of course). I then took it to a car audio specialist who checked all the wiring (DVD player) and said he found no problems and also could not duplicate the problem. This is not just a one time problem. It has happened several times but never while I was driving. I'm too afraid to drive the car!! Anyone else having these kinds of problems??

My situation seems very different from those. Most of them indicated that their fuel guage was reading incorrectly or low idiling. Mine just has no power at all at times and lost power while driving which I see as a hugely dangerous problem. I guess I'm the only one having this specific problem - which is good. If anyone else has experienced anything like this or heard of someone having the same issues, please reply. Thanks.

I'm having this exact same issue, unfortunately, the problem can't be reproduced on demand. I've heard replace the battery cables, fuel pump, inline fuel filter, not sure which path to go down first.

I also have a 02 Tahoe. Yesterday the engine stalled while driving. I tried to start it and nothing. I let it sit for a minute or 2 and it started right up. It ran fine for a few hours and then stalled at a stop sign. Again I had to let it sit for a minute and it stared. The service engine light never came on. I had a new fuel filter installed last month so I don’t think that is the problem.

Better hope it's not the fuel pump... they just stuck me with a $600 bill for replacement... Of course MY Tahoe needed the $330 fuel pump... not the cheaper one... AND I had to have mine towed in.

Did it give you any warning like stalling or cutting out? Or did it just quit?

Mine only happens when I first start it up. It will start and then dies. I hear clicking (about six clicks) under the drivers side of the dash and it's completely dead - no lights, doesn't even try to start when I turn the key again. Today I left it in the on position and jiggled the negative battery cable, everything came back on again. I would think it's a bad cable but when I start it again it dies unless I feather the peddle. It will die again if I come to a stop shortly thereafter if I don't feather the peddle. After I get it going into 3/4th gear it's fine.

I put some heet in it today thinking there may be some water in the gas line. It only seems to happen when it's really cold out.

When you start and when it begins to die, keep an eye on your altenator to see if something is drawing power above 14 volts. All these posts sound electrical in nature. A bad cell in your battery can cause your engine to cut, along with all the power. You may want to try to rent a diagnostic tool for your electrical system. The kind that those 'LemonBusters' inspectors use.

I just purchased a 99 Tahoe with the same start and stall problem. I replaced the fuel filter and everything is fine now.

This might sound kind of dumb. I have a 98 tahoe and it was doing the same thing yours is. Everything would die out all of a sudden, while I was driving. It turned out that the battery cables were loose. I thought they were pretty tight, but when I tightened them everything seemed to work better. Just thought you might check this.

My Tahoe just started doing the same thing. I Replaced the fuel and air filters it did not help. Have you resolved your issue yet?

mine was doing the same thing. replace the battery cables and it stop. the shop guy told me someone had used plier on the cables there is a special tool you have to uses on the cables or they will get damaged and keep coming loose.if it is your fuel pump you will hear a wining noise in the back of the truck when you get out and it is running that means your fuel pump is going bad and when it goes there is no warning.
