Re: cv-joins going out :'(
If you can do it yourself it shouldn't cost you more than like $160 for both axles. If you take it to a place like les schwab it's around $300-$350 I think.

Re: cv-joins going out :'(
my friends 4g has both cv joints clicking on him,
hes been driving on it for over 6 months it still doing the same thing, just dont do any burnouts & take corners under normal speed, it would be cheaper buying the hole axel at a junkyard for about 50 to 80$ (maybe cheaper) maybe off ebay, not hard to replace at all.

Re: cv-joins going out :'(
yeah last time i did them on my 94 civic ex, it was 120 an axle at autozone. however don't be discouraged yet, because when i was done, i took my old ones back for the core charge and got 120 back. so to recap.
PS new = +120 DS new = +120 PS old = -60 DS old = -60 total cost = 120 that was on a 94 about 3 yrs back. prolly cheaper for u now |

Re: cv-joins going out :'(
Take the rubber boot off and fill it with bubble gum, put boot back on, drive happily away.
Let the dude do it for $11, its worth that much not to have to mess with it.

Re: cv-joins going out :'(
go to autozone or advanced auto, tell them the yr, make, model, type, and which side of u'r car u need the axle for and they will get u the right one. jack u'r car up, take the wheel off, take the axle nut off, pop out the upper ball joint, pull the top of the spindle down and out, pry the axle out of the tranny w/ a flat screwdriver, swap the retaining clip to the new axle if it doesn't have one already. install in the reverse order. but if u don't know how to get the correct axle, then i'd really recommend getting sumone who knows wut they r doin to do it for u. if it's an automotive program at that college, then (if the college is any good) the instructors will double check the work after the students do it to make sure it's correct and safe.

Re: cv-joins going out :'(
lol well im pretty sure i could get the correct axle and do it myself... just wanna make sure all my ducks are in order yaknow?? I would just have the college do it but they cant get to it till the winter quarter starts in january... i need it fixed by december 24th... im gunna call a couple more shops and get some other quotes... but i cant really afford more than 150 or 160 dollars .... im gunna jack the car up tomorrow morning and see if i can see which joint is messed up... i w0ould rather just replace one axle now and the other one in a couple weeks. do they usually both go out at the same time?
