Lightbulb 2001 ranger check engine light

I have a 2001 4cyl. 2.5l 5spd my check engine light came on, i checked my fuel cap and filled my gas tank full, made a full driving cycle of cold start mixture of hwy and city driving. Last time this happened i took it to my mechanic and he said to much air or something in fuel mixture could this be because of K&n intake. he told me not to freak out when it happens it just an emission thing but i hate that light.

Any have any ideas?

Check engine light

I have a 2001 Ranger. I took it to Auto Zone and they checked the error code for free - P0401 "THE PCM HAS DETERMINED THAT THERE IS INSUFFICIENT FLOW IN THE GAS EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION SYSTEM".

I SPOKE TO A FORD SERVICE PERSON AND THERE IS AN WARRANTY EXTENTION FOR THIS PROBLEM. THEY WERE PRETTY SURE THAT THIS WAS COVERED. YOU PAY THE $99 DIAGNOSTIC FEE AND IF IT IS THE PROBLEM THEY WILL FIX FOR FREE - YOU DON'T HAVE THE $99 FEE EITHER.

I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT ON 12-13 AND WILL LET YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS.

Engine light problem fixed

I was sure that Ford would tell me it was something else wrong and that I would have a huge bill. To my surprise, they called and said that they took care of the problem and it was the sensor and ther was no charge! The product description - SNS ASY-E/G/R number 4U7Z-PJ460-AA.

I bought the truck used and there is 40,000 miles - I'm not sure how many years or miles, but worth calling the dealer.

Re: 2001 ranger check engine light

doublejmj you should check your oil levels, and then check your rockers. And you should do this soon. That is definetly not good to hear that when you accelerate. Check it ASAP. Chances are the check engine light could be because of the rockers.

Re: 2001 ranger check engine light

talked to an engineer who has a Ranger like mine ..... he says there are about 4-5 basic reasons the check engine light comes on...he says they are easy to fix....my light comes on when it is around 10 degrees out, going uphill, goes out after a minute or so .... extreme panic when this first happened ... 135k on a '94 4 cylinder stick shift

Re: 2001 ranger check engine light

My 2001 Ford Ranger 4.0 liter, 4x4 check engine light came on at 50,035 miles. I took it to a popular automotive parts store and they read a P0401 code as insufficent flow and said the EGR valve needed to be replaced. I bought the EGR valve for $50 bucks. Before installing it I got on this forum and read that this code is usually due to the DPFE sensor and that Ford had extended the warranty to 50,000 miles to cover this. Well I knew I was 35 miles over that, but I called my local Ford Service department and was told that the warranty was actually extended another 24,000 miles beyond the factory supplied warranty of 36,000 miles - giving it a total 60,000 mile warranty coverage. I made the appointment, they replaced the DPFE sensor and the truck is fixed. I returned the EGR valve. This forum is great, not only did it save me money, but many hours of frustration.
