Re: How much can stock 97 VR4 Transmission Handle?

You will start to notice the shortcomings of the stock clutch at 400hp...

Transfer case and synchros can have problems in stock form...the first is under recall...the second dealt with in the FAQ.

Rest of tranny should be fine no matter what...but with more hp comes more wear and tear, so as you get higher and higher hp, you will start breaking things...especially if you are launching at 5-7k all the time.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

The fastest times ever by a 3/s were done on mostly stock, if not totally stock trannies.

There are no aftermarket tranys, the only upgrade is for the output shaft.

Actually Team Rip Engineering (www.teamrip.com) at one time serviced the VR4/TT tranny. however, i don't think they do anymore. but they do still service the NA tranny, and can fully rebuild it with reinforced everything, even taller 5th gears.
