New Dash Lights for 98 Jimmy

Hi, I would like to replace the dash lights behind the gauge cluster with bright white LED bulbs. I believe this is the look that some of those new luxury cars have in their clusters (Lexii, Accords, Aviators, etc). I read in another post that the Wide angle bulbs would suit me best as LED light is narrowly focused.

My questions are, is really tough to access the backside of the gauge cluster on a 98 Jimmy? Anyone out there successfully replaced the bulbs on their gauge cluster, and are happy with the results?

One other thing, would anyone recommend one of those Intelliglow Needle kits? you can find them at http://www.importintelligence.com

Thanks a lot.

Jacob

Re: New Dash Lights for 98 Jimmy

im sure you can take your dash out and find all the screws that hold in the gauge cluster. I havent tried in a Jimmy before but im sure you can do it. Its true that an LED is more narrowly focused, but in most gauge clusters, the light shines into a piece of plastic which disperses the light evenly. Pull it out first and check. What else you may want to do is test those LEDs somewhere else. I got some color changing LEDs from autozone, and they burn out quick. Now im glad I didnt do all my guages in them. I used bulbs for my guages, they were fitted for size 194 bulbs, and I put the green bulbs in, which give it kind of a glow rather than a lit up look.
