Question How Do You Clean Your Rims..Tips.?

Hey guys, i don't know about yall, but i've had no luck with those spray on wheel cleaners. Either eagle one, blue magic, mothers etc. Even when i spray that on, rough up the brake dust, then use a high PSI stream-there is still alot left to be taken off.

What i've resorted to, is simply using a tough sponge (with those nets on them) with hot water and dish washing liquid-because it takes off grim and brake dust really easily. After that, i dry the wheel, then apply liquid armor all(with a piece of foam)-leave it, then wipe it off. This gives a shine, but also acts like a sealent, pretty much like how clear coat makes paint come alive.

My wheels are aluminum brushed, no clear coat on them. Any recomendations on how i can clean them better..? What soap/cleaner do you use..?

BTW, the armor all makes the dullness of the newly cleaned wheel go away. Anyway to make my wheels look bright?

the key to cleaning brake dust and wheels and exhaust is getting a degreaser. i use orange glow on my wheels and it did the best job of anything id used before.

Re: How Do You Clean Your Rims..Tips.?

yea, like 89 said, degreaser is the best for initial cleaning. I got ahold of some industrial strength degreaser from my job and it does wonders. If the build up is bad enuff I'll use the degreaser along with an abrasive pad, although if you have a chrome or polished finish, I don't recommend anything abrasive. After that I rinse them off then use an everyday car polish then wax to shine em up and add a protective coating.

orange glo works really well. but yeah i just use the meguiar's gold class car shampoo on them also. first make sure the wheels and brakes are cool, Dont spray cold water on hot brakes. i rinse the wheel off, then spray a bunch of orange glo(or car detergent) on it, use a pretty soft nappy sponge, its like furry i guess, then just scrub them really well and rinse then towel dry. keeps them nice and clean

crap i forgot to mention for brake dust, let orange glo just sit on it for awhile then scrub it and rinse

When I clean my wheels thoroughly I take them off the car and spray them down with brake dust wheel cleaner. Let them sit for a while then use warm water and a heavy sponge or wheel brush and wipe off the brake dust and grime.... Also a tip on how to get your tires back to black. Use Whestleys Bleach White and a wheel brush. Spray it on wait a few minutes the scrub the wheel with the brush and rinse clean.

Try the steel wool that is like ULTRA FINE. The lowest grade. I used those on my Firehawk wheels (chrome) and BLING! You use anything corser and you'll scratch them to Haties...make sure you have lowest grade!!!

First I use the Mean Green Bug n Tar remover spray for the breakdust, then if my rims are dull I use the really fine scouring pads to bring out the brightness. After that I use the Blue Magic Paste. It Only takes a little.Once the paste goes dark I buff it to a shine. Its A nice workout but the results are well worth it. The cloth you buff it with also makes all the difference. The softer the better . I personally use my sons old cloth daipers , or a really worn out old t Shirt.
But If you hate brake dust as much as I do you'll invest in a nice set of behind the rim brake dust covers. With the covers and Blue Magic pretty soon Youll be able to hose em off and go. A good silicone gel on the Tires after cleaning will really bring em out. Silicone beats the hell out of sprays any day. hope this helps.

Re: How Do You Clean Your Rims..Tips.?

Im with Kaotik just clean them often and brake dust wont be a problem. I use windex for a normal clean and when i am really cleanin i use this stuff called Blue magic or something like that. U rub on till ti turns gray and then u polish it off. My cousins uses the steal wool on his 24's on his expedition and it looks clean as hell.

Re: How Do You Clean Your Rims..Tips.?

Hey guys, the best i've gotten so far is the following.

I bought orange blast from greased lightning, it's pretty much a degreaser. I sprayed that all over my wheels, let it sit for like 5 mins, then got my bucket of soapy water (meguiers pink car wash soap) and made the water almost hot enough that it burns you hands :-) With a rag, i just cleaned and rubbed alot, and my rims looked very fresh after drying etc. Then i applied the liquid armor all (not the foam) on a towel, and glazed the rims-then wiped off the excess.

Damn they look good now, thanks for telling me to get degreaser-it worked great.

BTW, the best tires shine is from the following. Spray the tires with armor all foam or similair, let sit for 10 mins, then apply the liquid armor all on the tires using a foam applicator. The first spray on coat makes the liquid shine go on like clear coat over paint-NICE.
