Question Olds Intrigue 99 A/C-Temp Control

Hi All,

I have an Oldsmobile Intrigue 1999 GX. Can anyone out there tell me if I can swop out the standard Heating and Cooling control unit in the car with an Automatic (Digital) Temperature control that came with the GL models.

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

It's actually a piece of cake. you take out the two screws in your center armrest, pull off the plastic parts, and unscrew the 2 screws holding the head unit on. there is 1 plug in the back, and you just plug your new one in and reverse the process. takes 15 min, tops!

But is that all the auto HVAC unit needs, just the Control Unit? I swear I've seen parts on some website that require the auto temp control.

But swapping out the radio and HVAC unit is easy. I just installed a CD/Cass. radio to replace the tape deck and it took about 25 minutes. Most of that time was used to search for a screw I dropped into the center console.

The change from single to dual zone control is not easy.
The control heads are different. The single zone control head uses two connectors while the dual zone controller uses one connector. The entire HVAC unit needs to be replaced as the HVAC motor is different and the dual zone syste has a few extra acctuators and sensors.

Don't bother. The standard HVAC system is more reliable anyway.

Yes, I would also stick with the standard HVAC setup. It's easier to use and much more reliable than the digital setup. My girlfriend's car has the digital setup and we've had to replace the control unit because some buttons stopped working. The two control units are not interchangeable. You would need to aquire and wire up the additional components of the digital setup in order for it to work and trust me, it is NOT worth the time & money to do this. The digital control unit alone costs $400.
