I just purcheased the new Evolution VII GT-A. This is the new automatic/manual transmission model. Yes, clutchless 5 speed. The Evo VII GSR is now stripped for racing only with no A/C, power anything no radio, nothing. I figured that with the reputation of the evo, mitsu did this for a good reason. I will be getting it in 12 days from now. I hope it is everything that I was told it to be. I have some ideas to upgrade its performance, but I would like to here from you what you think would work good. Thanks.

My EVO is the GT-A. It comes fully loaded, but the one thing I was disappointed with is that they did away with the hood scoops!!:o Also, the spoiler is now an option, which I could not do without! Can u believe the audacity? I plan on getting a EVO VII GSR hood in the near future though.

I have never owned a car other than a manual. This will be my first time ever to own a semi-manual transmission vehicle. From what I have seen from my research, the transmission is very responsive, and THAT was the only way that I would try this new transmission out. I believe in the Mitsu and I don't think they would ruin the rep of the EVO. Once again, they don't sell the EVO GSR other than the completely stripped version. the manual available for the evo that has the options is the RS and it has lower engine specs (HP, torque. etc) and different gear ratios.
As soon as I get to drive my GT-A, I will inform you of wether or not I will keep it and wither how happy or pissed off I will be at mitsu. Littledagger. |

This sounds kind of wierd to me, mitsubishi making one manual version with options, and having it with lower engine specs. it just doesnt sound logical. usually for performance cars, the manual is the poular one, and it has the higher engine specs and the options. the gsr had manual and all the options, along with high specs, so why would they just get rid of that? so now you cant get a manual with the full specs, and aptions??

I am Japan right now. I purchased the EVO VII GT-A directly from the dealer. I had to buy the 2002 EVO with full options like airbags, side impact doors, etc. which come on the GT-A. It will be easier to import into the states. The dealer told me that the GSR is no longer being sold with all the options, just the GT-A. Mitsu said that the GT-A is very comparable in all the ranges.
The reason why they kept the 5 speed on the stripped GSR andf the RS is the weight factor. The GT-A's transmission is heavier, but more durable, and the GSR and RS is ighter but les reliable, and the clutch was not practical due to its incompatibility with the amount of horsepower the EVO has. The GT-A still has a clutch, just electronically shifts. No pedal. littledagger |

Isn't a stripped down GSR an RS?
I've always thought the INVECS tranny was a tiptronic auto box. Its what i've got in my car, just not the new one thats in the gt-a. Just checking, the gt-a uses the INVECS-II tranny, which is the same as my car, except the evo has one more cog to use, even mitsi site referrs to it as an automatic. Which it is, and the INVECS tranny will always be an auto box to me. |

It's obvious littledagger has NO idea what he is talking about. Probably just some teenage troll. The RS is the stripped down version. The RSII and GSR are not. The GTA has an AUTOMATIC transmission. A manual without the clutch
There are some real uninformed people on this board. Lancerforums.com has more Evo owners |

First of all, I live in Japan right now. And the GSR is no longer being sold fully loaded. If it was, I would have bought that, without a thought of the GT-A. I was destroyed when I could not buy the GSR with all the options anymore. I looked into it extensively. And yes, the EVO is the INVEC-II tiptronic 5 speed automatic with shifting on the steering wheel (supposedly with some modifications from one in the galant). The guys at mitsubishi said that I would not be disappointed with the response time when shifting gears. The gear ratios are very close to the GSR.
I am no teenager and have been an evo lover for quite some time. Littledagger |

well then I think you got it the wrong way around. it is the rs that is the stripped version. i think you might mean the rs-II is not sold anymore as a fully loaded model. i have done ALOT of research. the GS-R is the fully loaded full spec car. the RS is the stripped version, the RS-II is the RS with most of the options. (this is not intened to be rude).I just think you got it switched around.
