Red face Please help!! (Socorro por favor!) Latino guy needs some help with the engine noise!

Guys, I'm having a big problema. I bought '97 Camaro Convertible Z28 last May (mainly to hook myself up with some chiquitas, but I'm the fan of da car too). But that's not the point tho. The fact is that couple weeks ago vehicle started to make that loud ticking/clicking kind of noise. Today I took it to garage and mechanic told me that noise seem to be coming from right valve cover area. Possible enternal engine problems. Most likely would be pretty expensive to fix. He said - "if you wanna get rid of it - now it's time, or else it will be late".
I've just turned 100K miles last month.
Anyway, the thing is - I recently found not bad trade-in deal from one of the small dealerships (I'm trying to get '2000 Maxima plus I have to add some money). But that deal they were going to give me 3 weeks ago, before the engine actualy started making that bad noise. I know they still got that car, but if I'll come there now and say: "Ok, we gotta deal", they will answer: "Yeah? What's that noise coming from under your hood, amigo? It wasn't like this three weeks ago!"
So please, give me an advice what to do with that clicking/ticking NOISE? I just wanna temporarily reduce it (for a week or two). I've been told that "STP Oil Treatment" might help. Gonna try it. Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance!!!!

Re: Please help!! (Socorro por favor!) Need to stop engine noise!

its very likely that you have a loose rocker arm, which is not an expencive repair, in fact you can do it yourself if you want to. It is also typical for injectors to start making loud ticking sounds, in fact the newer cars have alot of complaints because the injectors are so loud right off the showroom floor.

Yeah, well, Camaro is not the quietest car out there for sure, but I'm talking about really sharp, acute and annoying "clicks" and "ticks". But you might be right about rocker arm. Thanks for response.

Any other opinions, guys?! What might help me to calm it down for a while?

get a torque wrench, get the specs for the rocker arms, pull the valve cover, bump the engine over till the rocker arm is fully closed. and retorque the nut to spec. this should eliminate the problem. put the valve cover back on. and fire her up.

How is your oil pressure? If you have a collapsed lifter you'll hear that noise too, and your oil pressure will go up.
