Question Burning Smell 2

Wife just had the burning smell enter her car at around 70,000. It happend once last week and has not returned. Should I jump on the valve covers gaskets now to keep it from ruining coil paks and such?
Or wait and see.
I don't see any oil, but you really can't see much period.

Re: Burning Smell 2

Are you going to do the work yourself?

I do not know yet? Why? Do you have any suggestion? How to approach it? if to go with a mechanic or try to fix it myself?

Lightbulb burning smell - dealer response

Took my 2000 LS to the local Lincoln dealer - I bearly got the words "burning smell" out to the service manager when he replied "valve cover gaskets - see it all the time." My car has 30K on it but is out of warranty time wise. To their credit, the dealer made a few calls and agreed to do the repair for a $70 deductible - so Ford knows about it and will rectify if you ask. Nice to see some dealers do the right thing. Good luck.

It truly is. I read some article yesterday that just knocked me back a step. It was about dealers not getting paid for warranty work and further being penalized if they do too much warranty work. So the shops are getting gun shy to Ford when a customer comes in with a car under warranty. Many times the shops have to enter something similar to arbitration with Ford Motor Company just to negotiate the value of warranty work.

I stumbled on a website after reading that called flatratetech.com. Seems to be an adhoc coallition of Ford techs they are open to any question and will try to provide a clear cut answer.
