2002 security system malfunction?

My wife has been experiencing problems with her 02 Rendezvous -CXL 35,000 miles. We purchased it used four months ago.
While driving, the check engine light comes on then goes off and the security light comes on - at the same time, the door locks cycle.
This keeps going back and forth until the car is turned off for awhile.
Also the remote key fob sometimes activates the panic mode when pushing the lock or unlock buttons. I have not been able to see any of this first hand, but my wife swears it happens and is getting more frequent. Do we have a gremlin in the wiring or what?
Thanks, Bill

The problems got so bad, the dash totally lost power - no lights, acc, locks, windows, gauges, radio. Had to take in - (drove it to the shop.)
Just got the Buick back from the dealership -
1 new BCM (body control module)
2 fix electrical short in connector in engine bay
3 unlock radio cut out during power failure.

$800.00 repair bill paid in full by Buick - We were just under the 36,000
mile mark - LUCKY me!!

my wifes car is having the same problem. the dealer replaced the body control module already but found nothing else. can you tell me what connector in the engine compartment had the short? that would be a big help.
