VR6 vs. 1.8T

Which engine is better for tuning. I just wanna know which engine has more parts available for it

The 1.8t engine has much more of a chance for being decked out with mods. Turbocharged cars are good with chips(some get around 50hp), while naturally aspirated engines generally gain only 10hp. If you want to go crazy you can even buy an upgraded turbo system for the engine. APR has a few upgrade systems from 2,500 to 3,500 dollars. I have a Vr6 gti and its rather torquey. I have an EIP CAI and it leaves the line pretty quickly. I have yet to be beaten by a 1.8t; though i am well aware that a chipped one would most likely smoke me. All in all, i would go with the 1.8t because of its potential to be powerful with less money.

um, it really depends on money, and what your looking for.

dollar for dollar in performance mods, and you'll probably get more out of the VR6...cuz hey...its got more power than the 1.8t and it isnt even relying on forced induction. slap a turbo or supercharger on that bad boy and damn.

but if your looking for the least expensive way to get a damn good street car, you'll propably get more power initially out of the 1.8t. like homeboy said up top, one performance chip, slap on a CAI, and a simple turbo back exhaust, and your haulin.

not to mention the 1.8t is less nose heavy and will have a better handling characteristic besides.

1.8T pros-
*hell one of the most legendary compact engine there is
*so there are tons and tons of options for modding it
*has stock turbo
*very very easy to get power outta it
*bang for buck for power mods
*light
*faster than a VR6 from a stop(mostly, 1.8T = 6.5-6.7s, VR6 = 7s, 0-60)
*goes "whooosh" when you install a CAI, some likes it
*great engine for casual sporty use

cons-
*you can only get so much outta the turbo
*coz the stock k03s turbo is about the size of your fist
*it's a 4 banger, and only 1.8L at that
*so you can't really get much more than 400whp and wtq at the very very limit with top-end turbo and all, which you DON'T need I am sure
*nothing special about the sound it makes, stock

VR6 pro-
*freakin' nice sound, one of the best sound V6s there is
*compact V6
*it's a V6
*not bad power
*have great potential, put some turbos in and you can run with high end sports cars, even ferraris
*great engine for high-end tuners

cons-
*you NEED to have a LOT of money to really get great power outta the VR6
*coz it has no stock turbo
*and is a N/A engine, which means little power gain for expensive modes
*so no bang for buck
*but it's great if you are a serious high-end tuner and have the time and money to snap some turbos on it, which not many people do
*and a little slower from a stop stocked

mods:
boost guage, it's needed
chip, read some other posts for recommendations
aftermarket DV, you need it after chip
air filter or CAI if you want the "whoosh" sound
N75, depending on your chip
a turboback, 2.5" GHL is good

Or you could wait for the new 16valve 2.0 FSI GTI comes out. 200hp and 207tq starting at 1800rpms and doesn't spike like the 1.8T. The only problem is that it's new and more likely to have your typical VW recalls for faulty equipment and it will be more expensive. However on the plus side I am sure it will be as tuneable as the 1.8T is.

dont ask this question... its like.. .voodoo. well to me it is. you cant go wrong with either.

if you buy 1.8t, your gonna bash the vr's
if you buy vr6s, your gonna bash the 18ts

vr's have awsome potential, so does the 1.8t, depends on how much you wanna drop.

HPA grassroots system for vr6s is a great starting point, mod it some more and your running alongside ferraris. not to mention vr6s have 6-speeds standard. the 1.8t, like vin said, you cant really go above 400 hp no matter what you do to the motor. rare cases, you can get 500, but thats called a project, not a daily driver

and as for being nose-heavy... you kinda want weight up front since your a front wheel drive car.

so pick, either/or, you cant go wrong.
