I installed a cold air intake and a muffler about 3 or 4 months ago on my 2000 Galant GTZ (v6). Recently (over the past couple of weeks), when cold starting it, the idle will climb to 2000 and then drop to 1000 and then shoot back to 1500. This pattern continues until it is warmed up. I brought it to a dealership and they said that something was making the car idle too high, and that the computer was shutting the car's injectors off, accounting for the drop in rpms. the technicial adjusted the base idle to be slightly lower, which did nothing. I then noticed that my MAF was at an angle, slanting backwards. The tech said that I should fix the angle. So i did. That, so far, eliminated the cold start issue, however when driving at points you can feel the same skipping happening, especially near the idle rpm range. at higher speeds and rpms there is no issue.
I don't know if anyone out there has had similar issues in the past or has any ideas, but I'm fresh out, short of going to the dealership and spending god-aweful amounts of money of diag.
Perhaps the recent change in weather has affected it (winter is coming), or perhaps it is the lack of backpressure created by the new higher-flow muffler.
if anyone has any ideas or knows someone that would, please reply or email me (
