Service Engine Light

I have a Chevy s-10 crew cab that I purchased new. I hit the 100,100 mile mark the other day and the service engine light came on. I assume that this is a preset as I just had it serviced about 2,000 miles ago. How do I reset the computer or turn off the check engine light. I would like to reset it assuming nothing is wrong. If it comes on again I will take it in for service. I just do not want to pay to have them check it out, reset it and tell me nothing is wrong.

Thanks

The service engine light is there to say you have a problem.

go get the codes read at autozone.

Do NOT clear the memory!

Also, the engine light does not come on to say you are in need of regular service like oil etc...

BlazerLT is correct. You can get a key from Auto Zone and read your codes it will let you know if you are having a problem with alot of different sensors and other things. do not clear it until you have read your codes.

Re: Service Engine Light

Or if he has a 1995+, they have a small handheld device to read the codes.

Re: Service Engine Light

Go get it checked out before clearing any codes. I know this has already been stated but some disagree. Figured a little push in the right direction wouldn't hurt. I don't believe chevy ever used the "service engine soon light" as a regular maint. reminder so get it checked out. BTW: What year is your truck?
