95 Manual Shift 4x4 Problems

After searching around a bit I have noticed many threads mentioning 4x4 shifting problems with the electric (push button) shifting. My daughter's truck feels like it engages with the manual shift lever, but, the front does not seem to engage. No tire spin and no light on the shifter console. I have read the electrical and vacuum problems on the electrical versions.

What could cause the problems I am experiencing?

Re: 95 Manual Shift 4x4 Problems

had a similar problem in my 92 S10 blazer last year. I put it in the shop and it turned out it was just a broken vacum line. check all lines to make sure they are working properly. Mine is also a manual shifter on the floor. I can't rememeber which vacum line I had broken though sorry.

I am going to check that out. I will only have the truck for one day. She is bringing the truck home on the weekend. I did not know the non-electrical 4x4 controls used vacuum actuated shifting.

I believe you manual only engages the transfer case manually, the front differential or axles are still engage by a vacuum cable unit. push button 4x4 has an electric motor on the transfer case doing the job of your lever.

Great. I will check as much of that out as I can in my limited time with the truck. Thanks for the information.

Re: 95 Manual Shift 4x4 Problems

Yup, you guys called it. Broken vacuum line was the culprit and the easy fix solved the whole mess.
Thanks a ton!
