Question about gears?

Would a 94 drum rear end out of a camaro ( no traction control) rear end , it has 3/42's would those gears fit a 98 Trans am with no traction control.

really im no expert.. by any means, but i dont see why it wouldnt work... but to be sure i would PM hypsi or 89.. they would have much more knowledge in this area than me..

this is a tricky situation. since the rear has drums im assuming that its a sixer car. most to all of the sixer cars came with a series two carrier. all the v-8 cars use a series three carrier (ones bigger than the other). it depends on what gear came on the car originally, anything lower than 3.42 was series 2 and higher was series 3. those 3.42s are not stock i would imagine, but im pretty sure the highest gear you could get in a 4th gen sixer was 3.08 so they should be for a series 2, but you will prolly have to look into it more.

Are you asking if just the differential or gears would work? Or the whole rear end assembly?

what gears do you have in your car?

if you have 3.08 and above gears, the gears from the drum rear end will work just fine. if you have 2.73 gears you will want to get the carrier out as well. The carrier and gears are direct swaps. its just that if you have a 2.73 gear ratio you have a 2 seriese carrier that numerically higher gears wont work on, and youll need the 3 seriese carrier with the 3.42 gears out of the new rear end. as for bolting into your rear end, and using the same axles there shouldnt be any problems. but definatly dont use the drum axles in your disk rear end. just swap out the carrier and gears.
