Lets talk about .. chips?

No no not those chips fatty - the Hondata Reflash (ECU Upgrade). Does anyone have the reflashed chip? I am looking at getting one and i am interested in how it affects daily driveability and what kind of stress it is going to put on the engine. here are the stats from the chip:

Product Details:
12-20 peak wheel hp from a stock RSX depending on the dyno and modifications.
15-20 ft/lb torque increase between 2500-3500 rpm.
Peak torque now at 3200 rpm on an unmodified RSX.
VTEC dip eliminated.
Very flat smooth torque curve. 95% of peak torque available from 2500-8000 rpm.
Rev limiter optionally raised to 8600 RPM.
VTEC point lowered to 5200 rpm.
Passes Californian smog testing (no measurable difference from stock).
Fully dealer compatible - works with all Honda scan tools and equipment.

"12-20 peak wheel hp... DEPENDING on the dyno and mods."
What the heak does that mean? I have a Injen CAI and i dont understand how this whole thing works. Please help

Re: Lets talk about .. chips?

By depending it means that the more mods you have the more whp this gains, a CAI, race header (or even a shorty) and a Hondata reflash yields great gains, and you CAN break into the 13's if you have stickier tires, motor mounts, CAI and a reflash.

I don't have it, but that and the Injen CAI are two of the best possible mods for the RSX. Also check out http://forums.clubrsx.com and if you plan on doing a lot of work to the car, the Hondata K-Pro would be great because you can customize your settings for better results.

As long as you don't redline everywhere you go I can't see any reliablilty issues and I have yet to hear complaints about the Hondata.

How it works - if there isn't a reflash center in your city (there probably isn't as there's like 2 of them in the continent) you purchase the upgrade (and you can choose VTEC engage point and redline) and you mail them your ECU along with the master key (the one that can open the glove box) and after a few days you'llget back your ECU and you re-install it. There are also Hondata shops out there that'll install and take out your ECU if you're not comfortable doing that.

There might be more but that's as much as I know.

Oh and Lays has a new flavour (I think its only available here) and it tastes soooooo good. Its sea salt and pepper flavour. Mmmmmmm chips.

Re: Lets talk about .. chips?

Yes Canuck, thank you for your knowledge...regarding potato chips.

Also- the "depending" might allude to the fact that dynos can produce different results depending on many different variables on the same car at any given time- so they give you a somewhat vague, best and worst case estimate there. Canuck's right, though (about the car thing and the snack thing)- you can't go wrong with Hondata.

I thought we could also talk about CHiPS the TV series starring Eric Estrada.

Re: Lets talk about .. chips?

nice poker chips enhance the playing experience so much - but people that can do tricks with them annoy me

Re: Lets talk about .. chips?

There are quite a few people on clubrsx that have the mod chip, so you might want to ask over there. From what I read on their posts, it seems to be worth getting it. And like Crazy said, if you're going to do a lot of modding, it's worth spending the extra $500 for the K-pro.
